Hey fellow MK's, had a question.

Question:
If you had a choice, where would you rather be stationed.

Choices:
Boston
Portsmouth
Key West

Are you trying to decide hat 270 you would like to go to? I was in New Hampshire on the Tahoma and loved the Boston area but Key West is cool. It all depends if you are married or not.

If i had to choose, i would definately go with Boston..... Portsmouth has too much Navy, and the cops there are horrible..... Florida doesnt have any seasons.... its always hot, and humid.

First, I hope I don’t hurt anyone’s feelings, but I am in Boston and it’s not my best assignment location. If you like the 4 seasons look south of Boston, the winters are long and very cold and snowy. If you plan on buying a home good luck, prepare to live an average of an hour away. I have shipmates that commute at least to be able to afford it. You can take the trains and buses, but once again, prepare to hike it in the cold. Parking on base is a real issue, so if you drive in you have to make it before they close the parking down. Cost of living around the base area is pretty high. They do have plenty of places to hang out but it will get old pretty soon. I would recommend Portsmouth. Cost of living is more affordable, you can get to any spot on the east coast for vacations by driving a few hours. You will have excellent access to all of the bases for services, exchanges and medical. Although the police is an issue, if you live on the straight and narrow that will not be factor. Just don’t speed and expect to pull your CG ID for any kind of professional courtesy. It’s not going to happen. Good luck on your decision. Virginia resident for 12 years!
