Scenario: Engine loss spark while underway

Here is the answer for last week's question.

Remove 2 coil wires. Insert a new spark plug(from the spare parts kit) and crank the engine. It is very important to check at least 2 cylinders for a spark problem.

Here are some major things you must trouble shoot before making a determination.

1. Does the battery have proper charging and starting voltage? Our DFI Vindicators need 12.2
volts to start. The engine WILL CRANK with less voltage but, the ECM needs to see 12.2 volts to allow for the stator to send a signal to allow for proper delivery. (ALL 2 and 4 stroke EFI or DFI engines require 12.2 volts to start)
You can check this by reading the volt gauge or by a multi-meter (which some of us carry)

2. After you have checked for proper voltage you can check the main fuse (which is located under the cowling) The main fuse is a 50 amp
Make sure the engine harness is plugged in tightly and all electrical connections under the hood are secured.

3. Neutral Safety Switch
If it is defective will also shut down spark. You can manually over ride this switch in an emergency. You can use a multi meter to check if the switch has an open circuit.

The parts that control spark are as such,
Stator assembly, ECM, Ignition Coils and Wires, Plugs, rectifier, voltage regulator and don't forget the Slow System.

Get ready for another question this week! Thanks to all the participants. Everyone did a fantastic job!
