It is odd, a couple of months ago I recall reading about the whole " seniority thing". It referrenced the MCPO-CG, the District CEAs or whatever they're called now, as being the senior enlisted in their district , etc , etc, etc.
Hopefully you active duty folks have an easier time wading through the electronic CG.
As all the MMCs, BTCs, and ENCs became MKCs on the same day, it really would be interesting to see if anyine could find WHO was the first MKC west of the dateline when the ratings merged. A bit of detective work.
That, from when the rating was established back in '74, has been one of the universes mysteries.
The MT (missile tech)MR (machinery repair) were taken as USN ratings. The scheme of ratings designations established in 1948 was based on two letters to abbreviate a rating. Guessing that MK sounded closest something that could be recognizable as technician. The CG rubber crutched the two letter designation scheme in 1968 when the MST rating was established.
Really kind of surprised, in 20/20 hindsight that the didn't keep the name "ENGINEMAN", as the reason for the merger was the disappearance of steam from the power plants of the cutters.
More and more tidbits from the Reservist Magazine archives points to 1 Jan 1974 as the date the MK rating was established.
