So I am currently an SK2 who left active duty about 2 1/2 years ago. Since April I have been trying to come back on to active duty but find it impossible as an SK.

I have thought about doing a lateral in rating to MK, this was the only other rate I had any desire for in the CG. How hard/easy is it to lateral and then get active duty orders? I only have a year and a half on my 8 year term for the original enlistment so I would have to obligate, but would I be able to obligate under an active duty re-enlistment?

How hard would it be to get picked up for an active duty MK billet? Is any of this possible?

Getting picked up wont be hard at all, and the lateral is pretty much up to you on how fast you do it. MK and BM are the biggest rates so there is jobs everywhere. You will probably loose a crow and be an MK3. The job itself is not dificult, but if you are mechanicly inclined it helps alot. Another thing is that SK are allowed to be color blind but not MKs, just in case that is your case. Im sure you will get more info here from other guys. I was wondering if you have been out so long, dont you have to do boot camp again?

I recently integrated into active duty as a MK2.
Let me tell you, it is not easy, you have to watch the message boards and try to get lucky.
Your chances to go active as an MK3 are really not likely, this is what the detailor said, so I made 2nd. It was still hard, currently from what the force notes say, MK1's are at 100%, MK2's are at 100%, and MK3's are at 102%. So start the lateral process and try to pick up a deployment or something. Title Ten Orders are your best chance to go active duty, but it's no gurantee.

Good luck,

I wouldnt have to goto boot camp again since I am still a drilling reservist, or at least to my knowledge. As for being color bling I am not. I am just testing the waters now to get an idea of what may be my best option.

I was a FN on the cutter SAGINAW before I went into aviation. I enjoyed the life of a snipe, and I'm more interested into the mechanical side of the boat world than the electical side. That and from what I've seen in the praq's and heard from MK's at the local small boat station, there's more and more electrical work in the MK duties as time goes on.
