hey guys i am going in as a mk in psu 307 out of clear water... I've been hearing somewhat how it is but i want your opinions on how it is. I heard i will have to do a lot of engineering stuff etc. i was hoping that i would be getting some weapons training also. Will i get to do any of this stuff in addition to mechanic stuff and engineering?

I'm talking legacy PSU here, but MKs in PSU-303 worked both Engineering support and Boat Crew during ODS/S.

MK1 John P. (now MKCS) was my coxswain on our Raider Boat at the Port of Dammam.

We're talking 17 years ago, I don't know how it's handled now.

Maybe a visit to a local PSU might answer your ???s.

You will get weapons training. All members have to qualify on a weapons system, no matter what rate they have.

ENG, LOG, etc have defense duties as well as their regular "job".

There are a certain number of billets for engineering support and a certain number for boats division. You will have to qualify on M-16/M-4, shotgun and crew surf weapons

I've been at PSU307 for six years or so. To answer your questions a little better, the MKs generally work separately from the boaties until there is an upcoming deployment on the radar. You will probably arrive at the unit, learn a little about the boats and some of the engineering duties and basic mechanic skills, and then you may get a chance to get boat crew qual'd. With any position, you will get 9mm and m16 qualified, and during annual adt you will more than likely shoot the 203, the boat's machine guns, and more. hope that helps, see you around.
