Yeah, go ahead and study questions that were already on a previous SWE. I'm sure it will be the same test!!! LOL....GL to you MK3. Oh, by the way, the previous post about the NEM, NSTM, end of course material, and EPME isn't a bad idea. It's not like someones trying to play a sick joke on you. Have you researched all those questions and answers that you magically came across? Keep in mind, someone just like you wrote those down. It didn't come from Master Chief Wilder.
lol! oh dont get me wrong MK1 I will be studying everything! thats for sure lol the study guide is just giving me an idea of what will be on the test! you guys still have rubber band wars there in the office?! tell Chief Macdonnel RED says hey!
Order your MK3 and MK2 study material. Read them a couple of times. Read through the EPME and you will do fine. Everyone says study the pracs, study the pracs. I have had better luck reading the material from the EOCT study material. Also look on the internet for electrical symbols. They like to throw in a few of those curve balls. I had transformers and diodes on the last 2 servicewides.
Everything up to the rate you are testing as listed in the PME and Rating PQS.
Get those two items and only you can determine what you need to brush up on and what you already know.
And if you already know it, you can do a self assessment with the tests listed at http://www.tech-service.net/eng as they are the STCW pool for Engineering.
Don't look for any PME stuff because STCW isn't military.
heres what i would do if i had to take it again. Study your systems ro/ows start up procedures and PMS manuals - i had a few questions on those most ows questions were about the 87' ows. then know your chapters for NEM. i had about 5 questions on what chapter things were in. My friends test had a BUNCH of hydraulic questions, but his test sounded 100% different from mine. Study small boat maintenance too - who really knows i am sure they dont put out the same test every time. Basically if you arent currently working on a system visit ne-tim or ELC and get the info on it. they were pretty specific with the questions and NEVER having worked on a cutter i was pretty lost with most of it though i made some educated guesses that turned out to be right i am sure i would have felt and done a whole lot better if i knew what to study last time. I am working on a study guide to post at machinerytechnician.com right now and for the other mk3's at my unit that are taking the swe in may. There's an mk2 EOCT study guide on there that is REALLY awesome - of course know your mk3/mk2 books pretty good. I knew them front to back and still felt lost so u def should go sleuthing around in other sources besides the course material. Good luck though!!
- oh yeah and EPME too - its an easy 25 questions!
