jocoastie: (I love the name!) and thanks for the question. We don't normally slate MK2's into MK1 positions. My recommendation is when you are due to transfer put in for WHEC MK2 billets or any other MK2 afloat billets. If you advance to MK1 we would make every attempt to fleet you up and keep you onboard. Even if there was no fleet opportunity I would try to at least to keep you there until you get enough sea time for MKC.

Thanks again,

V/R

Thank you very much for the advice, I will take it all into consideration when AY10 gets into full swing, I'll also keep my eyes peeled for the early slate MSG.

Good morning Mr. Roberts,
I am currently stationed over at PATFORSWA. We got over here with the winter deployment and are scheduled for departure in the winter of 2009/2010.
I understand that the detailers are due to come over to talk with us in theatre and you will also take our resumes at the same time.
My concern, as well as a lot of my shipmates is when do the detailers plan on comming. Have heard a rumor that you will be comming in October and we wont see orders until November. That makes it kind of hard for us transfering with maybe a month of time between the time we get our orders over here and our report date at our new unit.

Thanks for your time and hard work with the assignmet process.

I'm sure they'll give better info, but that October/November time line is how it went down when I was there.

I can say the Detailers that came over while I can say the Detailers that came over while ElCubanoMK and I were there were very focused on making sure everyone was accommodated as well as possible. I can honestly say it is the most positive experience I have ever had during a transfer season in 20+ years. Just make sure you have your choices well laid out prior to there arrival. And don't forget if your aiming for an EPO position have all your screening stuff completed.

I am curious if there will be a message, similar to the OIC/XPO screening message, announcing the completion of the screening so that we can all get off of our collective pins and needles?
Thanks

Good Morning MKdel,

Almost 400 Members submitted a request for AY 10 EPO Screening, and the screening panel is still in session. If you did not request to be screened, there is no need to be on pins and needles?

Thanks for the speedy reply. I was referring to those of us who did request to be screened and the never ending nail-biting inherent in screening and transfer and advancement, etc. that goes with our chosen profession.

"3. How will I know if I successfully screened for EPO? Members who do not successfully screen for EPO will be notified via email from their detailer. If you do not receive such an email by 1 September, then you may safely assume that you screened. In order to protect everyone’s privacy, and because there are SO MANY EPO applicants, we do not want to release a message or email to all applicants listing everyone who did and did not successfully screen for EPO."

Good afternoon Mr. Roberts,

Sir I have a quick question regarding the AO's Hot Word @ EPM. The following; Were there 178 total positions shopped in '09 and 236 MKC's competed for those 178 positions?

Thank you.

"MKC’s
*178 positions were shopped in AY09
130 Priority 1-3 MKC’s competed in AY09
- equals 73% of positions shopped
* Does not reflect advancements to CWO, Special Assignments
release, or RILO’s.
48 positions remaining after the Priority 1-3 MKC's were slated
- equals 27% of positions shopped

Resume of 10 picks = 5.6% of positions shopped in AY09!
* 236 MKC’s competed in AY09 = 132%."

I am curious as to how they come up with the SWE cut offs. Why do they say one thing and then do another? Earlier this summer the MK2 cutoff number was 139. After the August advancement, there was 9 people left below that cut. This month 30 MK2s were made which extended the cutoff to 160 on the Nov. 08 SWE. For those of us waiting to make MK2 off of the May 09 SWE, this is a bit of a let down. Especially for those of us who wrote very well, being passed up for advancement by someone who wrote a sub-par SWE is a hard pill to swallow. Numbers 140 to 160 had already come to grips with the fact that they didn't make the cut and would have to make it off of the May 09 SWE. Again, why did they do that? It really sucks.

Albatros, why are you complaining about this topic to the detailers? Why are you complaining at all? The guys and gals who took the servicewide were eligible to take it before you ( if not, you shouldve taken it then too), but in either case you should be glad people are making it. Just because they placed "subpar" as you put it, doesn't mean they don't deserve it. Stop the animosity, you'll make it when it's your time. Now let the detailers do what they do and stick to the topic and if you have an issue with my post let me know and I'll gladly give you my number so we can discuss it.

I understand albatros3rd's frustration, since I did very well on the May09 SWE and I'm waiting for the cuts. I'm really hoping that I advance before 01Jan10 and get to keep my sea points for when I go for MK1.

However, every single person on the November08 servicewide list passed the requirements to become an MK2. They all did the pracs and passed the MK2 EOCT. If the servicewide was waived, as they are for BMs and other rates, they would have made it before you anyways.

On the plus side, if they keep advancing 30 a month, they will exhaust the Nov08 list in 2 months, and will have to start the May09 list.

Albatros, why are you whining? The people on the list from the November service wide had all their requirements in before you. Why didn't you have yours in? If it's because you weren't time in rate eligible? If so, then don't look here for sympathy. I believe there should be longer time in rate requirements for advancement. being prior service, I have seen so many immature whiners get promoted that don't even understand how the advancement process works. You obviously don't understand how it works so figure it out and quit the whining.

Albratross,

Before you worry about making MK2, you need to learn how the advancement system in the CG works. The Nov 08 SWE list is supposed to be used until Dec 31. After that, the May 09 list will become effective. IF the Nov 08 list is exhausted before Dec 31, the CG releases a message stating that an early advancement is authorized. Check the boards under ALCGENL.

There may be some people who were not above the published cut and when the final message for the Nov 08 SWE comes out for Dec 1st advancements, you may see their names appear on it. It all depends on current vacancies and service needs.

If you are going to be a Second Class Petty Officer, you need to know how this stuff works and if you don't, read the PERSMAN. If you still can't understand it, ask your Chief before you come on here whining.

Hey Albratross, i see a lot of people getting on you but the whole advancement process is a very frustrating topic. Just like jni3 said the people who took the NOV service wide had all of their requirements done in August of last year, right? 3 months before you actually take the servicewide. I took the NOV 08 servicewide and got bumped down the list 50 spots due to a lack of sea time, time in rank, time in service, there are a lot of MK's that have put their time in and waiting on list like you are and the last thing anyone wants to hear is someone complaining how they're still promoting off a list that was supposedly cut off, it sucks, trust me. Right now im 30 away on the NOV 08 test and i took the may 09 and wrote 16 and got bumped to 28. Yeah i did real well and a lot of my buddies down here wrote in the top 50 but they're not mad at me because i got all of my requirements done for the NOV 08 while they could have been doing the same thing. So dont worry about it, everyone on this discussion board knows what they're talking about. They just advanced 29 MK2's this month, thats great even though its off the NOV 08 test still cuz once that list is exhausted they're going to start advancing early off the MAY 09, all i have to say is be happy they're making MK2's right now rather than a few or none at all and study for the NOV 09 servicewide. Anything can happen, ill be taking it. Take it till u make it, good luck to all and hopefully they keep advancing the way that they have been.

Albatross, I know how frustrating the advancement and transfer process can be. I just wrote in the top 10% on the MKC SWE and there's still no guarantees I'm going to make it. It's a waiting game that can really test your patience and if the ME rating has as much impact as some say it will, it's going to test everyone's patience even more than normal. I would recommend that you learn how the whole process works though, before you start the complaining. Like DCMYER said, you technically shouldn't be eligible to make it off the May 09 SWE until Jan 10 unless they clear the list from the Nov 08 SWE. Understanding that could save you a little grief.

I understand how it works. I really do. Granted, it may have come across as whining or complaining. I apologize if that offended anyone. It was more a quest for answers and not really for opinions. I was wondering why they even make a cutoff if they are going to continue to promote off the that list. As long as everyone understands that they'll continue to promote off that list until the first of the year why does there even need to be a cutoff. If you didn't write well on the SWE, you know to keep trying. Making a cutoff is unnecessary. It only gives false hope to some and it can crush the hopes of others. Tell me if that makes sense to any of you. MK1 A, if the offer still stands, I'd be glad to take you up on it.
