Sir,

How recommended is it that members contact their AO for career counceling during the period of April thru August? Also, if members choose to contact their AO for career counceling, what is the best way on going about it? Any insight into this will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Sir,
In an earlier post you said that "Everyone that has been identified for advancement and are transferring are considered a AY transfer regardless of whether or not you are being short toured due to advancement."

I understand this to mean that you should not see orders before the e-resume submission deadline and all of the assignment factors listed in ALCGENL 146/08 should be followed. Correct?

Thank you.

"acebuc - Congratulations on making MK1! To answer your question, you should receive your orders as soon as we have your slate complete. All orders will be issued by 01Apr. It is possible that you may receive your orders as an MK2 for the MK1 position, with or without a frocking note attached depending on the timeframe and the position that you have been slated for. Everyone that has been identified for advancement and are transferring are considered a AY transfer regardless of whether or not you are being short toured due to advancement. My suggestion for everyone is if there is a doubt on whether or not you are transferring due to advancement is to contact your unit POC and get a hold of the detailer. There is never a guarantee that we are just going to leave you there, and never assume that just because we have not heard from you that we don't have you on our radar, because we normally do...bleep...bleep...bleep...
I hope that this answers your questions.

I would like to thank mkcsnipe and askacook for your words. I would also like to thank everyone for their participation thus far."

Sir,

I know this question has been asked before, and I know you are extremely busy, but I was wondering if you have moved on to the priority 3 MK1's. If not, can you please give me an idea of when I should start looking for orders? Thank you again.

Good Morning MKsmurfE5,

"A few MK's that are transfering this year at my unit brought up a good question, being that we are all priorty 5 and at the same unit, how would the AO choose who got orders first? "

In order to answer your question, I need to know who is assigned to Main Prop, and who is assigned to A-Gang? Everyone is an Engineer, and we have an upcoming port call. Every Engineer will get liberty during the port call, but A-Gang needs to fuel before liberty, and Main Prop needs to correct a govoner problem before liberty.

Needless to say, every priority 5 who is slated from their E-Resume, will receive their orders within the same time frame.

Sir,
In an earlier post you said that "Everyone that has been identified for advancement and are transferring are considered a AY transfer regardless of whether or not you are being short toured due to advancement."

I take that to mean that a member should not receive orders to a position until after the deadline for the e-resume submission. I also understand that to mean that all members following ALCGENL 146/08 will have their e-resumes reviewed and every attempt will be made to fill one of their assignment choices based on the guidelines set forth in ALCGENL 146/08. Is this correct?

Thank you and thank you for having this forum.

Good Evening jman11,

It appears that you have a specific individual question. Please have your Command Rep call your Assignment Officer. Trust me, we answer our phones. In the event that someone leaves us a voice mail, we will return the call.

Good Evening BrennanandEllasmom,

As earlier posted, we are at a port call right now. I am still waiting to hear back from MKsmurfE5, as to who received liberty first today, A-Gang, or Main Prop? Just like the "Plan of the Day", we are always working on our game plan, remembering where we came from.

Time for me to make a round, and sign off, as I have the EOW.

v/r.

Good Morning Jeosh,

Members are highly encouraged to contact their Assignment Officer on the phone, or via e-mail. This is totally a personnel preference IE: Do you do your income taxes yourself, ask an SK for help, or go to a tax professional? Had I known then, coming up through the ranks, what I know now, I should have called my Assignment Officer. You should have seen the look on my face when I put in for 270's on the east coast, and then received orders to turbine school. Hmmm I said, funny but 270's don't have turbines the last time that I checked. A few days later, my 378' orders came in for the west coast, and the rest is history.

Sirs,
Thank you all for your hard work and efforts,it seems the higher in rank you go in the MK rate the more paperwork you do and less time turning a wrench, this being one of those Coast Guard challenges, however a good one.

I just wanted to make a call from B-1 to Main control, and let you I am a very willing MK1 to stay in D-17. Alaska

I do not have a EPO endorsment, because I did not ask for one, the main reason I need sea time to make Warrant Officer.
This may not have been the best career discssion and maybe lessons learned for myself and other MKs coming up through the ranks. However in the event due to the needs of the Coast Guard I could get a Command endorsement for an EPO postion and step up to the plate and take the challenge.I have never had the same job twice in the guard makes things interesting.

Thank you for your time and consideration and this disscussion board.

Mr. Bopp.

Long time no see Smile I worked for you @ 91102 briefly before I transfered to 91108. Anyhow enough about the good old days. I have a few questions concerning special assignments and being released from rate.
First question: In what order are members released from rate to fill special assignments? Is it before or after you as the MK detailers review their E-Resumes?
Second question: Does it negatively effect the assignment process if a member is requesting a release from rate to fill a special assignment as far as the order in which you review and slate jobs compared to other members with the same priority?

Good Morning Everyone....It appears that there have been a couple of more questions since the last time we pulled into port, but let me start by saying that Engineers I know never left the boat first. From our recollection here in the Engine Room, it was all the shiprider rates that left, while all the engineers (Main Prop, A-Gang, DC's, & EM's) were turning and burning.

jman11 - to answer your question, what I mean is that an identified advancement whom we have changed the rotation date will transfer during the normal assignment timeframe w/ the normal report date of 01Jun +or- 30 days. If there is a question on whether or not your rotation date is being changed due to advancement, you should definitely contact your detailer through your unit POC.

By the way, people always ask why we use this date for transfers and the answer is simple. We use this transfer date in an attempt to stagger report dates with the BM so that everyone at a unit is not leaving all at the same time.

CGSKIMK - Main Control to B-1, although we appreciate your desire for D17, we do not base our assignments off of Fred's Place discussions. Your ability to display your desire on where you would like to be stationed is through your E-Resume.

aprater - Great Questions concerning Special Assignments. You can view CGPC's normal assignment timelines on our website, which also includes a Power Point which we use on our roadshows.

A modified SA timeline includes:
NLT31 March - Message released
May - Shopping list released
Mid June - Packages and E-Resumes due
July-August - Selection of candidates
Mid October - All SA orders issued

We do this to ensure that the member is not left in the cold should they not compete favorably for Special Assignments. If you notice the timeline, this leaves a member the ability to re-submit a E-Resume for rated assignments should they not be picked up for SA.

I know that everyone out there is very anxious for their orders. We are working very hard to get this done, but we must also be diligent in what we do. I cannot even begin to describe how long it sometimes takes just to slate one position due to the many assignment factors. We should be releasing priority 3 MK1 orders shortly. Those that did not receive anything on their E-Resume will be contacted.

Best of Luck out there.
V/R,

Good afternoon Sir. I was just wondering how the EPO Packages are coming along. In a prior post it was stated that a couple of them were still being screened through the selection process. If so, are these sreened and issued seperatly from the normal priorities.

Sir, do you see any reason why Priority 2 and above MK1s do not have orders yet?

Mr. Bopp,

I am a priority 5 MK2 stationed in Texas and I put several Alaska pics on my E-Resume, if I were to be slated for a Alaska pic when would be the earliest that I would get orders?

Thank you for your time Sir

This board started out as a great thing, But it has turned into a "can i kiss the detailers butt so i can get my first choice on my resume". Does anybody have a question to ask the detailers. I can honestly say the detailers probably didn't intend this discussion to turn into a where am i going and where are my orders thing. Sorry to be so negative just my two cents

Tell it like you see it MK1993. Everytime I read anything on this thread it is either someone repeating a question or asking "their" career specific questions.
