the initial cuts are always conservative. As they need more, they move the cut further down the list. Those above the cut are guaranteed to make it. It's better to have conservative initial cuts and then add to the advancements than to have larger initail cuts and then tell some that they're not getting promoted after all because they don't need as many E5 as they thought they would need.

My question is why do they have cuts at all. It seems that making a cutoff is entirely unnecessary. If they clear the list, they clear the list. If they don't make enough off of a list by the first of the year, the people that didn't make it off of that list would have already taken the next SWE because they knew that they didn't write well enough. This is the first time that I know of that they may not clear the list, as far as MK2 goes. So this process is relatively new to me and the rest of the prospective MK2s.

The cuts are issued so that detailers can issue orders during transfer season instead of moving people at all times of the year.

Good Morning,

I have just completed closing all of the ghost billets for MK3 up to MKCM Positions. If anyone tries to create an AY 10 E-Resume for MK3 up to MKCS positions, they will only see an open PATFORSWA Position. Once we have completed our shopping lists, we will start opening up the
AY 10 billets.

CG3325909 - Good Afternoon, even though I am no longer an MK AO I hope that the current AO's won't mind me jumping into their cool aid with a reply to your question. The answer is YES. The numbers that were posted are correct. There were more MKC's than MKC positions that were shopped. This is part of the reason that assignments are so difficult, and why the AO's harp on the terminology of "Realistic E-Resumes". I highly recommend personnel that are tour complete pay head to the detailers words and wish you all the luck in this upcoming assignment season.
On a separate note, it has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as an MK AO these past four years. Although it is a very stressful job, it is also one of the most rewarding that I have had in my career.

Good afternoon Mr. Roberts,

Sir I have a quick question regarding the AO's Hot Word @ EPM. The following; Were there 178 total positions shopped in '09 and 236 MKC's competed for those 178 positions?

Thank you.

"MKC’s
*178 positions were shopped in AY09
130 Priority 1-3 MKC’s competed in AY09
- equals 73% of positions shopped
* Does not reflect advancements to CWO, Special Assignments
release, or RILO’s.
48 positions remaining after the Priority 1-3 MKC's were slated
- equals 27% of positions shopped

Resume of 10 picks = 5.6% of positions shopped in AY09!
* 236 MKC’s competed in AY09 = 132%."

what does it mean when a billet in people soft is labeled as closed, but the incumbant is scheduled to rotate this transfer season?

It means someone divided by zero.

It could mean that they extended or someone fleeted up into the position but the incumbent hasn't been updated yet. Or it could have been forgotten and not added and is actually open. Call the incumbent to see what the deal is if you had a specific billet in mind.

I was wondering if anyone knew if I would still be able to compete in for an EPO position even though I was not able to complete early screening (due to a 3 because of my weight) but now it will have been more than 2 years in OCT and I would like to fill an EPO position even if it is a leftover. Will there be a regular transfer season screening process for EPO positions.
Thanks.

DMCAT, the most recent message said that those who were selected for EPO positions have been notified of their selection.

Check the alcgenl board for the message.

Good Evening Sir,

I have a multiple part question;

A member is above the cut for E-7 through E-9, has screened for EPO at their current rank, has special duty(instructor) billets on their dream sheet as well as EPO jobs, and is considering submitting a package for appointment to CWO.

With the above and the latest AY SITREP in mind;

1. If there are EPO jobs and general duty jobs on the e-resume, should the member put the EPO jobs at the top and rank order the GD jobs after, despite desiring certain GD jobs above certain EPO jobs?

2. Should only one e-resume be submitted with the EPO billets, Instructor billets, General Duty billets and the CWO request in that order?

i.e. Is this what that e-resume should look like?

EPO Job 1
EPO Job 2
EPO Job 3
Instructor
General Duty
General Duty
CWO

Thank you.

Hello Everyone...I am the spouse of a MK1 with an impending transfer in July 2010 and I am looking for some guidance. I work for another governmental agency under DHS at Headquarters in Washington DC. Of course, off the shopping list we are looking for mainly Geographical Location in order for me to continue my mission with DHS. My spouse screened successfully for Engineering Petty Officer (EPO) and was instructed to list the EPO jobs first, then General Duty (GD), and so on.

My question is with one option as an EPO to keep our family "where" it needs to be, if there are various others GD positions also available, should we structure our list the order of want for location, or just EPO positions to meet the needs of the Coast Guard?

I understand meeting the needs of the Coast Guard come first, but I am wondering if the Detail Assignment Officer takes into consideration the needs of the spouses? I know when the spouse is another Coast Guard member a detailer will try to keep them within 50 miles apart. If I am under the same Department Umbrella, but not agency, will my position also be given that same consideration?

We can always GeoBachelor, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask with all of the experienced and knowledgeable members on this discussion forum.

Thank you.

Good Evening MCA06tm01,

FYI, as your husband is an MK, he will receive the standard Assignment Year 2010 MK Reporting date of 1 June 2010, not 1 July 2010. This is due to MKs offsetting the BMs, who have a 1 July 2010 reporting date. If your husband's main concern is Geographical Location, then he is more than welcome to request the one EPO billet that you mentioned, followed by general duty billets.

As an MK Assignment Officer, I can not comment in regards to your husband's career, and other questions raised by you. Other experienced and knowledgeable members on this discussion forum may provide feedback to your questions, but there is a lot more to this story.

v/r,

CWO Bopp

Good Morning CWO Bopp,

Thank you so much for responding so promptly to my post and clarifying the reporting date of 1 June 2010. I really appreciate the guidance you have provided me with and I will hope for the best in the upcoming months.

You bring up an excellent point and I can only imagine what a difficult and complicated process you have ahead of you. However, your efforts to provide additional guidance to the members on this forum show how much you care about what you do and what a valuable resource you are to the United States Coast Guard.

Sir, I can not thank you enough for your direction and the reassurance that we are in good hands.

Thank you.

Sir,
Do you, or does anyone have any info on the SV-64 billet? I have seen a picture of the SV-64 and it looks sweet. But what would an MK billet be like?
Thanks
