Anyone cares to share your experiences with ALCO school in the Great Lakes. Ill be there in July, just seeing how it is and things to do in the weekend.

Well Great Lakes Naval Base sucks, but so does every Navy Base. But it is in a great location. You are not to far from Six Flags Great America, they dont do the 1 free entry like Busch Gardens but the will give you a discount. I have been to that place so many times growning up, it is a blast. Also in that same are there is Gurnee Mills Mall. And if you are adventourus you can catch the Metra Train to Downtown Chicago. If you do go to the city you can get in to the following attractions for free......
Field Museaum
Art Institute of CHicago
Museam of Science And Industry (my personal fav)
Shedd Aquarium (another fav)
and the Sears Tower
Let me tell you, down town chicago loves the military. Just ask for discounts, almost all downtown resturants offer a discount from 10 to 50%

Have fun

I have to agree Chicago loves the military, even more so Coasties. When we would pull in to chicago on the Mesquite the CG Aux would give the Chief mess a car for the time we were there.

I attended this training I did learn quite a bit, but I would have rather it being in Yorktown vs. The Great Lakes. Thank you for your kind words, I look forward to my new challenges the anchors come with.

When I attended it was little on the boring side, and being in the great lakes made it no better. The school is a core course for the Navy and it is normally taught over a month time frame. So the first few days will be real slow. The last couple days is the time I learned somethings.
