You will have to wait until your enlistment is up join the CG. If you get in you will most likley go to boot camp and then maybe to MK school. You can start getting all your ducks in a row before your enlistment is up as in setting up an app. with a recruiter and starting the paper work. You may not like the route but that is pretty much it.

I did the same thing a few years ago. You will have to wait till your enlistment is up. Near the end you can get a letter from your command stating that you will be discharged from the navy will a favorable reenlistment code, then you can go to MEPS and do your physical and stuff. I had to do a physical and retake the ASVAB since my last one was out of date. Then I signed and was handed two boxes of uniforms and told I had 4 days to get to my first command. I left the navy as an E5 and came CG as an E5, no bootcamp or anything.

Nope, all he has to do is at the end of enlistment, hit up a recruiter. There's that pit stop or whatever its called now (unfortunately I didn't have that option years back). You would still be subject to needs of the service, meaning if there wasn't a spot available, you would have to wait until there is one. The only time they really send a prior service to boot is if the wash out of pit stop (you really have to be a dirtbag to get kicked back to boot from there). Good luck!

The parts above about needed to fulfill your requirements to the USN are correct. What happens after that depends on mukltiple items. The first thing that will need to happen is that a recruiter will forward your 'package' that details your knowledge, skills and abilities to the senior MKCM in the CG, called the MK RFMC. He or she will look at the package and make a determination on whether or not you have the skills to be a CG MK(x). The only time this can even happen is if there is a significant shortage of MKs at the paygrade you desire and can be accepted at. If not, the recruiter will not even be able to submit an application. If the MK RFMC decides you already have the skills, then the recruiter will figure out which accession program in place at the time you qualify for. If the rating is not short, or the RFMC decides you do not meet the minimums, you will need to agree to come in as an E-3 non rate, and later apply for an A-School.

Too manu of the above "if's" are time sensitive, so no way of knowing now,

What he said. Had I decided to lateral over as a DC, there was no telling how long it would've taken. Coming in with guaranteed MK A school made it a little easier.
