Can anyone here give a first-hand review of any military RV park in FL? Especially the army camps near Panama City and Fort Walton Beach and the navy RV parking at Trumbo and Sigsbee, NAS Key West? Not to exclude any other RV park in FL, but those are the areas I'm especially interested in.
RW LUCAS, I can speak for the Fort benning rec area in Destin it has many RV sights I haven't been there in a few years but I thought the park was great and according to the facebook page they are striving to make it better. THis rec area is not to be confused with the Maxwell AF rec area across the bay. At Destin the BAth Houses are clean and the sights well marked there are no pull throughs. But on of the best RV parks I have been at. The rec area also has otel rooms and cabins. Hope this helps. For more info check PathsAcrossamerica.com
I have stayed at the Navy RV park in Panama City FL and can tell you that it is an outstanding facility. It's located adjacent to the marina and the base club. They are mostly gravel pull thru sites with 30 and 50 Amp service. Only issue I had (at most southern RV parks) was with ants, I now get the Ortho ant pellets from home depot and spread them around my tires, stabilizer kacks and shore ties. No problems since I started doing that.
I've been full timing in my 26' travel trailer for 2 years now and love it. I've downsized my life significantly and save a ton of money.
I don't know if I want to own an RV or not, so I'm thinking about renting one from Cruiseamerica for a few days and driving over to a military RV park. I honestly don't know how often I would use an RV if I had one and they can be a huge expense to use and maintain.

Probably cheaper to use motels. We have ours because we had a cat and a dog.It is nice to pull into a rest stop and take a nap when tired or have a sandwich. Nice to have your own bed and bathroom. We have a 26' that is not so big to drive or park. We normally try not to have a schedule. We use walmart parking lot regularly. Only go to an rv park when we need to dump the tanks. We pull a jeep liberty and get 6-8 mpg. Engine is an 8.1L v8 chevy motor. Park at my daughters and have free cable wifi water sewer electric and lots of meals for a month each summer!
Almost certainly cheaper to use motels but some places I go there are no motels, also it is nice to bring your own cooking facilities and have the option to change plans and stay somewhere on the way for a couple days or go somewhere else entirely.
