Has anyone stayed at Shades of Green at Disney World? Wife and I were thinking of spending about ten days there in Early Dec. and wonder if it is a nice place to stay or should we go for one of the DW resorts. I'm not as interested in the thrill rides as places like Epcot and such. Maybe the NASCAR drive school. Thanks Tracy
Stayed there with kids and grandkids. Close to most everything. Rates good. Service desk for all the discount tickets. Clean. Good service. All in all a nice motel/hotel. I'd stay again.
Ditto. Plus we found the same souvenirs for the kids in the small Exchange they have, at half the price of the park stores.
Having the extra hour in the morning (before the folks coming into the park) to hit the popular exhibits and rides was also great. Two restaurants in the resort had things to eat for all of my picky kids (the special Prime Rib night was great).
Absolutely no complaints, other than the stay was too short.
It's been a few years since I was there last - but Shades is a great place to stay on property. We always found it to be quieter than many of the Disney hotels.
Don't know if they still do this, but it used to be that if Shades was full you could request "overflow" accomodations elsewhere. The prices weren't quite as good as what you got at Shades but were still significantly cheaper than the hotels were offering the general public... Right after Coronado Springs opened we got put there as overflow from Shades. Paid $80/night for a room that Disney was selling for $160...
Well thanks all, We made our reservations today at SOG and they were very nice. We are looking forward to the vacation, strange as old as I am I've never been to either Disneyland orWorld and I was staioned in LA years back on Walnut (Old one).
There's something there for all ages. Bring good walking shoes. Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate. Wev'e been running temps in the area approaching the 90's. Awful hot for May. Enjoy.
Tracy, you know I am about 50 minutes East of Disney.. After doing all that driving in your motorhome, I will expect to see you when you get down this way...
I got my free 5-day at the ITT on the Navy base in New Orleans. I purchased my family tix tax free the same day at ITT. The tickets are good thru 23 December 2009. Once you use them the first time, you must use them up.
Disney is offering 40% off Disney moderate resorts for military . For my rank (CWO), the Disney hotel is cheaper than Shades of Green. Staying at the Disney hotel allows you to buy a meal plan which can save you a good amount of money depending on your family eating habits.
I got my tickets at Langley and I went to a vacation rental website vrboorlando.com to rent a house ten minutes from disney. I have a big family and didn't want to be stuck in a hotel room, I got a 4 bedroom 3 bath house with a gameroom and a pool for 5 nights for $544.00 this includes a cleaning fee, insurance, and taxes. This place sleeps ten so we were able to invite more people and it is a short drive to Disney.

If so, will the Shades of Green offer the companion tickets tax free?
Does the family members or friends need to be present at time of purchase?
Do you have to use them the same day you purchase the tickets?
Thanks for your help!

I am going over to disney next week. I purchased a few of the passes for my imediate family from the ITT office at Fort Lewis in Washington, but my aunt is going to come along with us as well. I talked to the Ticket office at Shades of Green and you can buy the tickets there. So as soon as I arive I will be heading over to the ticket office there to get the other companion ticket. They said I just have to be there. The tickets do not get activated until you actully take them to the park. Also at Shades of Green is a exchange that you can get stuff for cheep and tax free.
I drove all the way out to Travis AFB to try and get my Disney World tickets. I should have called first. They don't carry them. Why not? Does anyone know for sure if we can get my free one and the companion tickets at the gate. Or do I have to go all the way over to Shades of Green? Thanks!
I stayed at Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground a couple months ago. I picked up my free ticket and a companion ticket at the Gate to the Magic Kingdom. Anyone with a camper I would suggest staying at the campground. There are a lot of activities, especially for kids.
if you are going to disney and you want to stay at one of the other resorts ask them for the military discount you can stay at the resort for 40% the normal price.
