I know must people nowadays have 1 or 2 pets and these pets are considered part of the family. However, not everyone is fun of pets for multiple reasons. Some include medical reason such as allergies.
Recently, I was looking for a hotel in the Carlisle, PA area and the closest hotel I could find where pets were not allowed was almost 30 miles away. There were tons of hotels within 10 miles, but all allowed pets. All of the hotels claimed that their sanitation program was good and that I should not have concerns for allergic reactions related to pets.
Well, being there and done that. Goes w/o saying that we must acknowledge (as documented by 20/20 and Dateline multiple times) that hotel rooms are probably the dirties and most bacteria infected places you can find anywhere outside public bathrooms.
Please understand, I do not hate animals &/or pets, but I am allergic to some dog & cat type of hair. Hotels tell me that only certain rooms are normally used for guests w/ pets, but the key word is "normally". They do not assure that any of their rooms has been 100% free of having pets. Any advice for someone like me?
Well sir, the one way to ensure that your room in a different place is guaranteed to be pet free is to take it with you. Have you considered an RV or trailer? I had just the opposite problem, could not find places to take my three dogs, so we got a trailer and found the joys of traveling with the four legged kids..
Have considered both advices, but the RV or trailer is sometimes and in some places not practical. Benadryl, well, makes me sleepy...might as well stay home sleeping. I hear you, don't take me wrong. I just wish just like they have designated non-smoking rooms they also had pet free rooms.
Wray, you know, I have been going to Carlisle for years now as I have a "compadre" (I'm godfather of a friend's adopted Korean girl) and I keep saying that in 2-3 years I'm getting a corvette, but I have never gone to the corvette show! Shame on me. But will make point of going soon. Do you know when the next show is? For now, my next stop is the Indy 500 again. This year my brother got seats right across from pit row instead of behind them. I hear they are better seats...but they cost twice as much!
I graduated from Carlisle high school (born and raised in Hershey, finished high school in Carlisle). I don't get back much these days but I sure do miss the town. It has grown in the last 10 years.
We have so many car shows throughout the spring and summer and into the fall. The fall car show (the big one) was an excusable absence day from school. LOL. Two of my buddies own smoothie stands at the car shows on the weekends.
I live in hotels almost year around. I travel with three cats. In every new hotel room, this is what happens:
* Each cat pizzes in the four corners of the room to mark their territory from previous pets.
* Each cat sleeps in the bed.
* Each cat kicks used granulated litter out of the box and onto the carpet. It never comes completely out.
* If there is a kitchen in the room, we let the cats eat off all the plates, drink from the sink, and we open the refrigerator door in case any of them get hot and want to sleep in there.
Other than that, they're hardly any trouble. I can't imagine anyone caring if they are in the room or not.
I have a good friend here, that I met back in Alexandria many years ago... He is in the Corvette business, was in VA, now here... His site is below... He goes to Carlisle every year. I have several other friends that make it as well.. I haven't been there for years... maybe I'll put that on my list of things to do.
Yes race tickets are expensive.. I have been selling my 500 tickets to someone in VA for the last 2 years.. I get to go to all the other races (3) free after he buys mine. I think mine go for $1200 (4 days of races, 2 seats) If you want to see a race you need to go to Daytona.. I can see the entire track from my seats.
Whoa Wray, we only buy tickets for the day of the race so it's only $175/each right across from pit row. But I guess if you buy for the week's events that's another story.

I can understand you not wanting to sleep in a room where a animal has stayed; however I would be more worried about the nasty human that slept their before you. All hotels should have animal rooms set aside. Just like smoking rooms. Now try sleeping in a smoked in room. That is Gross!!!!!
