Not where I live!

I made eighteen grand a year teaching high school in the '90s. I think a Plt. SGT makes a bit more than that these days.

The way you feel about E9 is the way I feel about C2. At least as an E9 you've got a ride. Yeah, if you forgot to tighten the fittings in the turret before you raised it you got a lap full of cherry juice. Then you were stuck with the speed wrench and "manual erection". Big Grin

I absolutely HATED carrying that fracking sight, night sight, batteries, and coolant bottles! My CoC was very smart to keep a constant eye on me, otherwise that $hit woulda found its way into a very deep ditch at the first opportunity. Equally as bad was the fact that us Dragon gunners were on permanant LP/OP duty due to having the only thermals in the Company.

Standard reply to LP/OP duty:
"Screw all you lazy a$$ed bang-bangs! If you wanna know who's coming so bad, break out the fracking PEWS and find out for your freeking self!"

Yes, this additude got me into LOTS of hot water. Oh well, Drink some more and then add a few extras for me. I don't get to self medicate until 2400 tonight.

The ITV turret was like the turret in the Milenium Falcon on Star Wars for me.... that sh*t was pretty cool. The part I didn't like was all the malfunctions and maintence and the fact the ITV was pretty much a serious injury waiting to happen. The 4x4 jeeps at Ft. Campbell were worse though for danger but more fun to drive.

On the ride vs walk business...

11B's I always felt were over compensated for the road marches with additional time off (ie days off sometimes) and rest time in the field, hours more sleep. They also had the lowest promotion point threshold to meet as well among the three MOS. So no guilt there on my part we were equalized between 11B and 11H.

11C's I thought always got royally screwed over. CoC treated them like an after thought like the 11H's and they were so small in number nobody really spoke up for them in the BN TOC. So I always felt like a POS around the 11C's because they had to carry all that heavy sh*t, never complained and their promotion points were not much lower then 11H so always guilt laden around them. Razz

LOL, I almost forgot about that. Yeah, The turret controls resembled the Tie-Fighter controls in the origial Star Wars movie. We were at the motor hole one particularly nice day. All of the major maintenance being done, we got bored and started screwing off a bit. (Uuuuusssss? Screw off? Nawwwww!)

Anyhow, we've got this cherry in the turret "practicing" using the controls and forget about him for a smoke or two. Here comes the Platoon Daddy up the line looking up at the top of the track asking what the hell is going on with the turret. We turn around and the dip-stick IS playing Star Wars with the turret. Needless to say we all rolled laughing our a$$es off like a buch of hienas. He never heard the end of that. Big Grin

Hey! I was an 11B in the Army then a Storekeeper in the USNR.

I was collateral duty MA most of the time, though. I still had SK3 on my arm.

hahahah I was a C2 in Germany before I was a TC , you lose those sights and not only will you be up sh-it creek but you will have a dent in your paycheck for a long while Big Grin

And the Turret talk reminded me of a trick I used on drivers if the wouldn't follow directions, turn the turret to 11 o'clock, pull the pin on the 50 and bang the driver on the noggin'...they start to listen just fine after that. Wink
