Okay, has everyone seen the story about the two people who died in the Sweat Lodge at the resort in Sedona?
It's not in Sedona. It's 15 miles from Sedona. It's actually in Cornville, AZ. The "resort" is right beside John McCain's ranch, in Cornville, not Sedona as the press kept saying during the election campaign. Morons. |

Today, the headline of an article in the local paper is reporting one of the area High School football teams "shutout" their opponent 32-7............Shutout?
Remember when Patrick Dempsey crashed his plane while flying drunk? The media kept saying it happened in Phoenix. They even stuck a camera in Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's face for comment. One problem, it happened in Prescott Valley, about 100 miles from Phoenix. In Yavapai County, only about 60 miles from Arpaio's jurisdiction. My point? Our media, the people who are supposed to accurately report the news, is filled with idiots who have no clue what they're doing. |

Hell, we have the same problem around here.
They bring in these young reporters from somewhere else that don't know where anything is. I always try to check my county's news, but it is always articles about towns two countys over. What I find hilarious is when a newby reporter on TV mis-pronounces things. They always mess up Keowee, Cateechee, Eastatoe, Jocassee, Isaqueena, Seneca, Oconee, Chuaga, etc... |

I used to do traffic reports for sirius/xm radio. Let me tell you that the streets in Phoenix and surrounding area are oddly named for someone from Dallas/Ft. Worth. Something that you have to remember is the the media field is ever changing. People come through like a revolving door. Trust me I know seeing as though I was just layed off, again, from my media job. We are usually given a notebook filled with street and city names and expected to learn them as if we were deployed to a foriegn nation and had to speak fluent "local" having never been there or no DLI training(I realize DLI has no bearing for civvie world shlt, just saying). I can tell you that a Texan doing Phoenix Az traffic IS noticeable no matter how hard you work to eliminate your accent.
The reason why the reporter probably used Sedona(other then being a moron) is because that could be the largest city near that lodge. Just a guess though. Most media people are idiots. Judge, you're giving me flashbacks of memorizing how to say AZ streets. Those names look like the same as in AZ. I did get Piestewa Peak down when I was doin reports for Arizona. I made sure everyone knew how that roadway was named also. So the other reporters would say it right and show some respect to that individual. Your local news anchors are the worst at being sticklers for pronouncing how thing should be said. I had one send me an email that I was pronouncing the city I live in wrong. As a ten year resident his email went in the circular file. |

You can always tell a newby around here. They pronounce Prescott, as Press Cot not Presscitt. Like bisquit or dim wit.
The worst are the ones from the Northeast. They will lecture you that it "should be" Press Cot." So, I normally ask them why Worcester is pronounced Wooster, but Dorcester is pronounced Door Chester. The worst part aboout Phoenix is when they use the local names for things. Instead of Hwy 202 they say the Red Mountain Freeway, I-17 is Black Canyon Highway, Rte 51 is the Piestewa Freeway which used to be Squaw Peak Parkway and it goes through the Dreamy Draw. The Durango Curve, Broadway Curve. The Carefree Hwy is actually Hwy 74. US 60 is Grand Avenue. Where in the world are those? If you're not a local resident, you've no clue what they're talking about while listening to the traffic report. |

I feel your pain!!!! We are actually instructed to use the names of highways like that instead of the numbers. I actually tried to use both casually. Also, the producers of that area that give us the information to do the reports a lot of the time list it that way and never give us any other information. US 60 is also the Superstition Fwy in the north valley. They would also sort it by valley area, North, South, East and West. We have the same problem here in DFW. Most news anchors or traffic reporters think that you HAVE to mention the name of the fwy instead of the number. Non Locals will have no clue of where they are or where they are goin. Thank god for garmin. As far as the pronunciation, Most in the broadcasting industry try to use non regional diction. Which makes us pronounce everything in a generic form. That and Americans slaughter the English language. Most broadcasters try to pronounce things the way the are spelled. Oh and dont get me started on the Inner Loop(I-10) and the Maricopa Fwy(I-10). |

Actually, the Superstition Freeway is US 60 EAST of the Valley.
It's not only the heat that makes me avoid Phoenix like the plague. |

There's a prime example of bad info from the producers. |
