Take it easy on her, before you wear her out, Don.
Marilyn is faring well, she went bowling Tuesday and Wednesday AM's as a substitute for two different teams she used to bowl regularly with.
Just made reservations for November in Branson. The Chapter will hold a meeting on the 7th and the GALA will be held on the 8th, so have those two nights nailed down.

Sunday is Apple Festival in Versailles, (the old mfg point of the original #2 pencil) where Marilyn's Mom lives. We will be going down there for that, and probably install a new O/H door opener for her while there.

The Schantags maintain the best site for phonies and others.
They have the complete VN POW list.
Some very interesting reading there.

The Seals have their own site and have a complete internal list.

The SF "yellow books" amd Who's who can be used somewhat as guides abut are quite incomplete s to actually verifying someone.
Steve Sherman is the unoficial SF chronicalor.

Good to notify him of any orders or paperwork.
He has been able to help some legit guys find things they had lost or needed.

Good to see some Poser Comments here again, so what is new, they are all over the place. Posing as ex-pow, rangers, SF, SEALS, and whatever or whomever may have been in a combat zone. It isn't too hard to debunk one, just as was done in this case.

We have aproblem Houston, I have learned that Panama has moved to the isle of Amanap, near Podunk................ Beer

How come nobody ever poses as a Tracked Vehicle Mechanic, or Ball-Turret Gunner, or a Rigger, or an In-Flight Nosecone Repairman? Why is it always a top-secret, 5,000 jump, knife in the teeth commando who makes the rest of us look like PU$$IE$?

PS this is a retorical question.

Whisper Tell me oh great quiet one, if you was going to be a poser of someone who was famous in his own time; would you pose as General Yarborough or PFC Bumbutt who can't even wipe his butt right, while General Yarborough designed the Paratrooper wings, the Corcoran Paratrooper boots, and was the Father of the Green Beret; and it doesn't get much better then that. AND that is my theory noone wants to pose as a cook, medic, rigger, track mechanic or vehicle driver; no glamor!!!....®

Whisper Mike, Chuck and Mary are personal friends, Steve Robinson of VERISEAL, is an acquaintance and sometimes colaborator, while Steve Sheraman is also a close acquaintance. Steve has the Yellow Book updated to the end of the Vietnam War, and the White Pages was last edited for accuracy in 2003.

I state this because my son who retired in 1996 became a Decader in 1986, and is listed in the White Pages, as a Decader. He became a lifer in 2007 or 2008, forgot which one it was.

How familiar are you with any of their writings?
Jim

So is this what would you say is the main GOTO source for identifying posers?

The line that Military.com has officially taken is it will not go after posers unless there is an official and definitive DB that they can refer too. Once they have that their line is that they would prefer their QA department handle it versus the posters or Mods on this website. They will suspend someone for posing if a Veteran approaches them and states a clear case.

The Moderators have raised this issue again and again (back when I was a Mod) and the response back has always been there is a lack of a offical GOTO source for poser identification. They are concerned about potential libel lawsuits, IMO.....just guessing on my part but it seems this is what the concern is with Military.com.

In regards to Buddy Finder not being current, the statement made there is that DoD stopped providing names for these applications after 9-11 so the last Military.com update to buddy finder from DoD was in 2000 or 2001.

I forwarded all the info about the Ethiopian officer wannabe (a few pages back) to the POW network. He is now listed on their website of posers. I am not sure how they are able to expose, and prosecute some of these people, just by looking at the costs involved. FOIA isn't free. Usually you will incure a fee to get some of these records I am sure.

This is a fact, and I assure you they do kick out some monies in getting the information they require, but then again they have been sued and sued time and time again, but have never lost a case, because of their authenticity.

Yes, I would vouch for their being the Go To party when you have doubts of someone, or want to share a bit of information you have on an individual, to see it they are bogus or for real.

I too can render some sort of yea or nay, on someone who claims to be SF, SEAL, POW, or Special Ops. Those I don't have, I can get from Chuck or Mary. Actually it is more Mary then Chuck as for the really dirt digging. Ringo

Thankfully we have rule 11
quote:
11. Military Advantage, Inc. may immediately, without prior notice, issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend, or terminate your use of and access to the Site, at our sole discretion, for any reason, whether with or without cause or warning, and without liability.
In my opinion, the less said the better. If anyone has a poser issue, they should contact a moderator in private. Give them the facts, as they see them. For obvious cases, moderators can take actions without any commentary (i.e. member claims to be Joe E. Hero, and claiming the MOH). That's easy to look up.

I used a couple of on-line SEAL resources for a case I had a couple of years ago, followed up by E-mails.

The SEAL/UDT Museum in Ft. Pierce, FL (h*t*t*p://navysealmuseum.com/) and the Naval Special Warfare Archives (h*t*t*p://www.navyfrogmen.com/) were the two Internet sites I used, followed up by E-mails to the CNO Office for a double-check.

My subject was claiming both Navy & Army affiliations (Navy SEAL and Army flag officer) and was wearing 17 medals to various functions, NONE of which he earned (DSC, NC, DSM, DFC, SS, BS, PH, and others).

I was able to debunk all of his claims.

Ran into a poser Saturday night at a Halloween get together. He said he was an Army LT in the Marines. Roll Eyes SO I repeated, "An Army Lt in the Marines?" his reply was "yup." I smelled his shlt as soon as it left his lips. SO I asked him what did he "branch"? No clue. So I asked his mos and that blank stare came across his face as he started to move away from me as quickly as possible. Argue Never did see that dude for the rest of the night wish I could remember his last name. David something that lives in Cleburn, Tx. What a tool. Angry Whip
