I thought we could only wear pin-on skill badges, but I saw this video from Monday of a guy wearing skill patches on his ACUs. I never seen these in clothing sales, but I'm at an AF base, so our Army clothing selection is limited to what they can fit in a 4' x 4' space. Are these legit?

I have seen them for sale too, but they are not authorized. The LTC is wrong for wearing them.

Even when we first got our chocolate chip bdu's for desert shield, the rule was pin on only. That soon went out the window. I am sure it will change soon enough. Pin ons were such a cherry thing back in the day.

What I don't get is how he's getting away with it. An O-5 and a "director" sounds pretty high viz. How is nobody giving him a big "WTF"?

Maybe the Army is having a good sense attack and is going to go with sewn on nametapes and badges...naaa!

He probably figures he can do whatever he wants because of his rank. By the patch I'd guess he was Reserve or NG, except his job title sounds AD. |

His ssi is for the new Acquisitions Branch. I assume it is a new variation being field tested? Appears his badges and name tapes are affixed directly to his acu's.

Yeah, the corners aren't curled-up away from the velcro backing... Matt SPC, US Army 15U |

It could be that an old photo was used from when the ACUs first came out and the pin on/sew on was still a gray area.
That being said, I can only hope it is indeed a sign that the sew-on ban and velcro name tapes are going away. |

It probably is just an old film, the Army highers are not smart enough to listen to it's soldiers that hate the velcro, which is only about 98% of the total Army

Except the Original ACU used plain jane OD Nametapes and skill badges in the Original Photos. Look at the originals with Sfc. Mhyre of PEO Soldier |

It should be recent. The video was about how the Army is working to support version 2 of the Apple iPhone. That version of the iPhone was announced (and this video first aired) on 9 June 08.
Apple first announced the enterprise features and signed up Fortune 500 companies (and apparently the Army) to test in January of this year. |

Relax, just trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Benefit denied... |

I had wings sewn onto my A2CU's. No one in aviation cares, and if anyone else asks I just tell them it's authorised for aviators.
No problems yet! |
