Q29. When the Soldiers’ uniform of the Day is Army Combat Uniform Ceremonial, what will Soldiers wear?
A29. For Ceremonial type events or special occasions based upon commanders determination: * Subdued grade insignia * non-subdued shoulder sleeve insignia * non-subdued shoulder sleeve insignia –Former Wartime Service (optional) * full colored U.S. Flag insignia * subdued pin on combat/special skill badges/tabs/identification badges * tan boots (hot or cold weather) * beret http://www.army.mil/asu/faq.html |

But how many units actually have non-subdued SSI on hand for all it's Joes?

How often does the average unit do something that justifies a 'ceremonial ACU'? I've only seen it once, and it was just the color guard detail.

Dating myself:
The last Color Guard I did for the Army was in Khakis. White shoelaces ladder-laced into the spit shined jump boots, white ascot, white pistol belt, white gloves & chromed steel pot. That steel pot weighed a TON! The only alternative was full dress. We never had the option of performing a Color Guard in OD green fatigues. |

Predictable. Eventually they'll find a way to make you shine your brown boots as well.
