I don't know if everyone would be able to join the VFW because they were a Cold War Veteran, it be up to the VFW to determine their own membership requirements.

The United States Congress chartered the VFW and remains the proponent on the VFW’s membership qualifications. It would require an act of Congress to amend the VFW's qualification critera to include those cold war veterans that do not currently meet the qualification critera.

Actually I was at Camp Stanley during 1989 and 1990 and while Congress did amended the VFW requirements to include all Korea Veterans with 30 Continues or 60 days total service in Korea or adjacent waters form 1949 to DTBD I didn't join the VFW based on my Korea service. When I did join I ignored Korea and listed my service during DS/DS. Of course if DS/DS hadn’t occurred I also could have fallen back on an AFEM that was also qualifying.

BTW: I spent just over three years in Germany scud running in the five K zone picking up MEDEVACs. Very interesting feeling when your picking your way through the fog at night right on the boarder and the radar detector starts to show ADA track or missile launch. Oh S**T! Did I miss the fence and cross the boarder or are they just playing with me? Of course those three years in Germany didn't make me eligable to join the VFW either.

HONOR OUR VETERANS - CREATE the COLD WAR VICTORY MEDAL
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/172944628

One of the greatest (and most understated) endeavors undertaken by our nation’s military forces in the past 100 years has been the period of world history known as the Cold War. This military conflict raged for 46 years and engulfed the world stage with imminent threats of nuclear annihilation and the ending of the human race. Never has the world been so close to such catastrophic environmental disaster. The good news is that through the actions of over 20 million dedicated men and women veterans of the United States military, and our allies, this nuclear threat and the aggression of the communist Soviet Union were defeated. The Cold War was won and our peace was once again secured. Now, the Cold War Veterans Association, a 501(c)(19) Non-Profit National Veterans Service Organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, along with other veterans organizations, is asking for your help.

"HI I WAS IN THE 237TH COMBAT ENGR BATALION AT WARTEN BARRICKS. AND YOU?"

I was in 2/4 INF over on Badenerhoff Kaserne. Are you a member of the Wharton Barracks group? It's really for anybody who was in Heilbronn, but you might want to check it out. I think you can get there through my profile.

Nice to meet you.

Hey Frank:

After seeing:

>A BTRY 2/28 Bleidorn Kaserne Ansbach, FRG Dec 1975-Dec 1976

in your post above, thought I'd touch base...how did you like that area?? I left Germany (ETS, that is) Aug 1974, a little more than a year before your arrival. At that time, Ansbach was home to 1st Armor Division HQ...I was based at Bismarck Kaserne, Katterbach, with 1/37 Armor. Was there Feb 1972 - Aug 1974. Just curious....

I was assigned to Storck Barracks at Illesheim, 1st Brgigade of the 1st Armormed Divison. HHC 1/6 Infantry, Medical Platoon. 1976 - 1979. That was a great part of Germany, so much history to see and really good food.

While most Cold War military personnel ETSed without any ribbons, I was one of the few fortunate enough to receive a couple of awards for my service. 1st Battle Group, 28th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division reinforced Berlin Brigade spring & summer, 1963 during the Crisis associated with construction of the Wall.

I took MP training (1972) in Kaiserslautern, Germany at 15th MP Bde HQ. Stationed in Stuttgart with Co A, 385th MP Bn; Neu Ulm with Co B, 385th MP Bn; Heilbronn with Co B, 385th MP Bn; Bindlach with C Trp, 1st Sqdn, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regt. Got blown head over heels in a tank explosion near the Czech border after extinguishing (with my body) an E-6 that was on the tank when it caught fire with a full combat load of ammunition on board. Never even got a thanks. Pictures of the tanks remains can be seen here: Death of C-15, 25 July 74

I know of several people that died or were seriously injured while guarding the East German/Czech border. We never got so much as a border tab on our uniform!

I did enjoy being in Ansbach, I spent my free time downtown and would go to the Red OX, the Liberty Bell, and the Europa. I would also go to the movies at Hindenburg Kaserne where the HQ of the 1st AD was and I would go to the EM club at Barton Barracks because of the Country Music. I went to Katterbach for the Beer Fest in 1976. It was great what the Mess Section would do for Thanksgiving Dinner.

The site below is in response to a letter of inquiry regarding the process of submitting a Resolution in accordance with BY LAWS of the VFW. To be specific, I submitted three (3) copies of the resolution to the Commander of the post. I also submitted three (3) copies to the State Quartermaster, and one (1) copy to the Resolution Officer within the time required. Finally, I verbally introduced the Resolution to the members during a post meeting.

The Resolution requested support for the majority of the casualties that occurred during the Cold War.

The commander, and another member represented the post at the Convention

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v191/Robersabel/Comma...nderLetterToMe02.jpg

I resigned from the VFW

The Air Force Times was kind enough to print the following:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v191/Robersabel/The%2.../AirForceTimes02.jpg

I resigned from The American Legion.

How could I support such "veteran's organizations" when they fail to support military personnel from the Cold War? As far as that...how can anyone?

For those that believe support is warranted, please open the site below and provide your support. There is no doubt that the next-of-kins, and surviving wounded will appreciate your contribution.
