Does anyone have any experience or advice that they can give me regarding joint service awards?

I am currently working as an OPS officer for a trans terminal unit that runs the deployments out of East Coast CONUS seaports. We have received lots of support from a company of Marines with similar MOS and job type. Their commander is hoping to work with me on getting a joint service award for both units. I have read the regs and it is hard to understand who to route the award through. I think we have enough bullets for the lesser joint award due to unit deployments, MRAPs by sealift, etc.

I don't think you're going to be able to get a joint award approved unless your unit is actually joint.

I served at JTF-B in Honduras at Soto-Cano AB and received both the Joint Commendation Medal and Joint Achievement Medal. Our Command was a Joint Assignment. I don't see that in your present assignment, but would still follow up.
