I would love to wear the triangle patch...

Gay. I always laughed at the guys who wore the BDUs with the honkey looking US triangle. These same guys had bob villa beards and homer simpson guts. Model image of AR 670-1, lemme tell ya. |

i agree, the name over the triangle is a load of b.s., but it will help identify yourself as a soldiar in combat if something is to happen.badassguitarboy@yahoo.com

The civilians I saw on COB Speicher wore the ACUs with the US Triangle patch where the rank patch goes. Many of them looked OK in the ACUs, except for the beards or not being shaved. Some looked like they ate too many Krisy Kreme donuts (yeah we had them in our DFAC for the last couple of months we were there).
Some DA Civs also wore either DCUs or plain beige uniforms. But mainly it was the Ugandan Triple Canopy "security" guards who wore beige uniforms with huge round black Triple Canopy patches on them and on the front of their boonies (that looked gaaaaaayyy) Matt SPC, AV US Army OCS Selectee Class 303-10 |

What I always liked was the DoD civilians who were prior service who would where their CIBs and SSI-FWTS.
I know they weren't suppose to but who am I, the non-combat CPT, to tell a retired Vietnam vet turned DoD civilian to take it off. |

Jeez, Matt - y'all had Krispy Kremes? We don't even have that in Germany! It's enough to make downrange a bit enticing!

Yes Ma'am we did. I don't know how that happened, but one morning, our satellite DFAC (it was in our hangar) started putting them out. All the good ones too. However, it was torture for me, because I was training for the Record APFT we had to take. So for 2 weeks, I walked right by them, my mouth watering watching everyone else eat them. But once I got my APFT out of the way, I let myself eat one per day. Of course I still went to the gym and ran at least 2.5 miles per day, just to work off all those calories! There were guys that weren't even prior service that wore the patch of the unit they were with on both sides. This was mostly the LEPs, but at least they shaved and were in decent enough shape to look soldierly. Still thought the combat patch was a bit much, though. |

I sure as heck hope they're enforcing uniform rules on civilians. Back when I was in Iraq in 07 and 08, there were two different standards. Soldiers were slammed against the wall for ANY AR 670-1 violations, while civilians were getting away with murder wearing the same ACU. I'm not saying all were lookin' slobby, but the way some wore it, it was an absolute disgrace.

if I went (and I wanna) I would wear it with pride...I wouldn't even put an SSI-FWTS on it if I was wearing it. yeah...I'm that anal I guess. However, I might have a "high speed" reflective color flag though...as authorized.

Interesting Thread….
98GCM’s and FormerEmbassyMarine’s comments have huge merit!!! And I agree with them!!! Yes I remember seeing those DAC guys in BDUs back in the late 80s early 90s wearing BDUs on all the trips I made to Japan and Korea and I thought WTF??? Who are these POGUES???.... But now that I am a DAC/USA Retiree and if I were in one those positions I would do my utmost best to be the premier example to the Soldiers I would interact with etc, and F%^k the Regs!!!! You bet I would wear subdued versions of all my Skill badges too… Working stateside is one thing, (I wear bib overall every day at work and can wear size 30’’ waist trousers) and I keep clean shaven etc… Guys who wear long hair and beards do nothing to establish their “street cred” while in uniform. (they look freaking rediclous!!!!) Guys in uniform for the most part seem to have the attitude, “There never was an Army or military until I joined it and if there was, how did you ever make it until I got here!!!”… But by their actions in our “sand box”, they have a long way to go and a lot to learn “young grasshoppers”… But that is why we are in the business we are in and I never ever forget why I have a job either… DACs in uniform need to in spirit maintain AR670-1 standards, it is a simple matter of respect. It is all the same Army and if in uniform you need to share in the mission by looking your best, no matter what. |

I have seen the below patch in desert (the blue is is considered the full color version)
Which one would you wear? |

The subdued version is what is worn with field uniforms (ACU or DCU)

I'm sure you are a good guy Phil, Pharoah, whatever you prefer. You are serving your country and I respect that. What you need to learn though is to respect other people's service. I have to take issue with your post. First of all, I expect more from an officer, even a junior officer. To associate the word "gay" with people who serve our country in any capacity of the military is shameful, and unacceptable. Now I will agree that if DACs are going to wear the ACUs they should make a conscious attempt to look soldierly, mainly standard haircuts and no beards. I'll even agree with the Homer Simpson guts. I'm not sure I understand why soldiers, who have served brave and honorably, seem the need to degrade another's service in an attempt to bolster their own. Just be proud of your service to your country (which you have every right to), and be respectful of others service. That's probably one of the reasons they made everyone's profile private. It seems every time someone has a disagreement, they go to each others profile and would degrade their service. |

As a historical/personal footnote, I'll add that my father worked for U.S. Army 1940 - 1969 (CONUS). During WW II, he wore a M-41 "Parsons" field jacket with a small (2 x 4) patch displaying Engineers' castle & the words, "POST ENGINEER."
