I was on the dmz for 13 months w/jsa in 1967-68. we walked the mdl, and were involved in num, erous firefights. on our orders it always mentioned the 2nd and 7th id's and we were all involved in the same actions. My mos was 95b20 which was m.p.What they did was put the right num,ber of men there under the pretense of being m.p.'s. So we were doing infantry jobs and getting no credit what so ever.Still today they are afraid to award anyone from, the jsa a c.i.b..If you compare the regs to the ones they ask for it should qualify. Oh well, it's been 42 years and still doesn't look good.

I agree. I served on the DMZ in 1989-1990, and while it was no where near as bad as when you were there, there were still incidents. I think everyone who served on the Z should at least get a combat patch.

The good news is that if you are Infantry, and served on the Z before 1994, and can prove that you made contact, you are eligble for a CIB.

Yes, but what really sucks is they told us to ask for it when we separated and I forgot to now trying to get it is like asking them for something that I don't deserve. I had no idea that they would treat you like a medal chaser for simply asking for asking for somthing they offered in the first place. |

Well since you didn't hold an infantry MOS, the Army isn't going to give you a CIB, but at least you rate a combat patch, if you drew at least one month of hostile fire pay. There are alot of people who think DMZ vets have been getting shafted for years. I am one of them. |

Yes, your right.I got the ndsm, afem, kdsm, and gcm. Also combat patch, left there in aug. 68. I am assuming it is the jsa scroll and 2nd inf patch. Wrote jsa and the co sent me both. What I was going by, was the new rules about korea stating that, the same rules apply in Korea as in nam, laos cambodia or the world for that time period.jsa was definitly an irregular force. But that appearently is just my take. Westmoreland had relaxed the rules for that time period. But hey, I appreciate your service and knowone's service should ever be un-appreciated.

Me at Guard Post #128 late Autumn 1990 I have served Korea twice. My last tour was back in Dec 1989 to May 1991. I was stuck on the for 92 straight days there. We did Recons/show of force during the day and set up Ambushes at night. At that time we did not receive combat or even hazard pay even though we have encounter a 3 men N. Korean team probing on our side of the border. Remember this we are STILL at WAR with North Korea!! No Peace Treaty have been signed yet! We have the longest Armistice agreement in world history! They use to allow you to wear the 2IN Patch on the right shoulder and if you were an infantry and did DMZ duty there you were in title to have the CIB but the stupid powers to be decided to end this in the late 1970s for they did not want to alarm the people at home that time for time the N. Koreans still shoot at us!! We should be allowed this awards if we earned them I feel that many back home don't realize we still have problems with the North Koreans. We forgotten few have hold the line since 1950. Do not forget us.....Please!!! |
