Hey all, I left the Marine Corps in 2000. I just recently joined the US Army Reserve in March of 2011. Just a small break. I have not received an initial uniform issue. Beit slow funding or supply personnel issues. I have had 3 months of drilling in civies. There are some in my unit that have been in for over a year now and still have not received an initial uniform issue. Not even a basic issue of ACU's. I am not going to Boot Camp nor am I authorized to got to the active duty AIT. Just the reservist phase 2 and 3. But need uniforms to go. It is very frustrating. This is keeping me from getting mos Q'd and other training, bonuses, promoted and a host of other issues. Is there a AR or another regulation that I can use to help me gain an uniform item basic issue? Or some time frame from which it should be issued? My unit is up for rotation to the hot zone very, very soon. I can't deploy or even go to medical without uniforms.
I am in need of some guidance into the Army regs to help me and others in my platoon get what we need So that we can be mission ready. Not Epic Fail.
Good luck with that. I did a try one with the NG and NEVER was issued uniforms, boots. Luckily it was back in the BDU days and I still had a few items left. I'ld wear your old BDU's to drills. You'll stick out, yes, but, will also put a spot light on the f'd up supply people you have there.
Ty, but that idea was shot down.. I don't have anything except 1 set of old Marine Corps Charlies (E5) and I'm an E4 now. lol.... It has been 10+ yrs since I last served. And yes.. The supply ppl are non-existent at best. Rotating out as I got in. Still, it does not excuse the fact that some have been in the unit for 1 yr+ without any items issued besides a gas-mask.
A woman in my unit was in a similar situation. She was in the Army back when we were wearing woodland pattern BDUs. She came back in and needed ACUs. No basic training for her either. She started showing up to PT in a sports bra and shorts like she was shooting an aerobics video. (She's in great shape so nobody went blind) After PT she would hang around dressed like that. Pretty after her uniforms showed up. Magic.
I think a straw hat and overalls with no shirt would be proper attire until you get issued ACUs.
I'm sure that the AR is on the same system as the NG - if so, so long as there is funding avaible for that unit then it is a very very simple process. You are probably looking at a supply personnel issue. I've beena acting supply sgt for a few months since our last one quit - it only took me 2 weeks to get uniforms in for some PS Marines who just joined the unit... there is a limit on what you can order at one time but there is no excuse for no uniforms and you 1SG should be raising hell about it!
My 1SG know about the issue, and has for a loooong time. It seems uniforms as a priority for troops has fallen through the cracks. I swear I'm gonna have to take over the supply area. Is there a Certification to run supply, is it a billet or do you have to have supply as a MOS to work in supply.??? On another not... Did you have issues getting TA50 for your PS Marines? I had been out for a min... Well, more like just over 10 years. I was told it was going to take a while because of the length of the laps in service.
The length of your break in service won't have any bearing on when or how you get issued TA 50. Our battalion S-4 just ordered TA 50 for nearly the entire unit. Everyone got a huge box with their full kit inside. It was Christmas in May.
I suspect a lot of supply problems are the various pots of money and ordering processes can be frustrating and inexperienced supply NCOs simply throw their hands up and quit.
For us, TA-50 is a seperate issue, comes straight from State CIF. If the Supply Sgt is willing to drive down there and get it then you can have a 48 hr turn around...
For the NG supply is a full time AGR slot - I've been filling in trying to square it away because we had some "accountability" issues. I'm a 11B and got that **** working, so it's obviously not that hard!
The reserves may have a different system, but it can't be too different - hell, I got new uniforms in three weeks through ADO in Iraq.
If your break in service was more then 3 years, then you are authorized a complete issue.
the system the reserves uses is called Kyloc. Your supply NCO should have access to this, if not your 1SG needs to contact your next higher supply support to get it. once order is placed, the funding gets approved, and order is filled and shipped. over all should take 1 month to get you everything.
complete issue is roughly $1k in funding, which should not be an issue what so ever.
took me 8 months to figure this all out, and a whole lot of emails to make it happen, and im the supply NCO.
your ta-50 comes from a system called CIFISM. this may or may not happen, not workin in our unit at the moment. once you get your ta50 it is your until you ets out of reserves (even when you transfer units). when you ets, you ship it all back to them
i was also a prior service with a 10 yr gap in service. never did get my initial issue from my unit. was drilling with them for 6 months with no issued uniforms. was cross leveled to another unit for deployment and finally got my initial issue there along with my ta 50. guess they figured i must have really needed the gear to go to war.
I was prior service with a 20+ year gap - came back in 2007. I got a full initial issue, plus drill sergeant supplemental issue (boots, 2 uniforms, 2 hats), plus a LOT more when I went to Afghanistan. It may just be your unit supply. I have something like 14 issued ACU uniforms (7 are only allowed in combat theaters - flight/FRACU uniforms) and 5 pairs of issued boots (1 pair issued by the Afghan Army - they suck), not to mention all the other stuff.
I only wish. I have ended up buying 2 sets of ACU's, 2 sets pt gear, and will be getting my class "A" (blue) soon. I have to have this stuff for training and MOS qual/grad. It is unsat that it has come down to this.
had to do the same intially. needed ACUs to go to school. bought 2 sets of everything. My unit didnt get me anything before I went to school. Also, they sent me to a school in January in a very cold place. Had to buy some cold weather gear. ended up spending around $500-$600 of my own money.
when i finished school supply finally gave me my full issue. a month later at pre-mobilization i received my full ta-50.
now i have 9 sets of ACUs, 4 sets of FRACUs and all the other goodies.
are the ASUs required for school? if not, i'd wait on those.
