I recently joined the 101st Cav not too long ago and was asking what I needed to be squared away. They said they thought the unit had a MUC and a Philippine PUC, but other than that they didn't know anything. I looked things up about the Philippine PUC and all I could find was that in part of the unit's lineage, it includes the 106th Infantry. The 1/106th Infantry formed the 127th AAA weapons Battalion in the 1950's, which was also formed from the 2/108th Infantry.
The 108th Infantry earned the Philippine PUC in WWII. The 127th AAA Weapons Battalion went through more transformations and eventually was consolidated with the existing 101st Cav in 1993. Would this qualify my unit the wear of the Philippine PUC?
Not all unit awards are authorized for temporary wear, the Philippine PUC is one of those (see AR670-1 para 29-11). So no, don't wear the Philippine PUC. The link above will give you recent awards. Unit awards from 1962-87 are in DA Pam 672-3. Pre 1962 awards are in DA Pam 672-1. Lineage can be difficult to track and may not be cut and dried (units reflagg, activate, deactivate and honors may or may not transfer). That's why the 1SG or Battalion CSM is supposed to be able to tell his troops what unit awards go on the class A uniforms.
