I can remember teaching classes to pilots about the time and work it took to build up mk 82s so they could take them out and drop them. at the end of the class my assistant would "Accidently" pull the armiing wire from an mechanical bomb fuze scream and start running. you would be suprized how quick the bleachers would empty.

I guess you could say that. The other shops don't lift a damn finger. When they have to carry a tool box out there they even have a cute little cart for it.

Great MOS...... IYAOYAS

Before criticizing someone, walk
a mile in their boots. Then, when
you do criticize them, you will be
a mile away and have their boots. Wink

IYAOYAS-"If You Aint Ordnance, You Aint S***!

It does kinda sound that way; however, it's implying that if you are lucky enough to be or ever have been a 6531 then- "You are THE S***!"

just so there's no confusion in the future....

ORDIES,

On Saturday Feb 4th down on the boardwalk on Virginia Beach
there will be a benefit in support of Special Olympics in VA. It's
the "14th Annual Polar Plunge Winter Festival." For more info you
can go to www.polarplunge.com and see the events they have planned
for that day.

One of the events is the actual "PLUNGE". I and several other
AO's are trying to raise money to be able to participate in it. All
of the proceeds will go to the SPECIAL OLYMPICS.

If you would like to donate you can go to the following web
site…

http://www.firstgiving.com/POLARORDIES

Thanks for your support and feel free to fwd this to anyone who
you might be interested in donating to a good cause.

Thanks again!!!!!

"IYAOYAS"

Hello DvlDg_47,

I also was AO/6541, but by the sound of Guitar's earlier post, I think he regrets being an AO. Read on:

We load live ordnance like once a year. The rest of the time we drop Mk 76s (these gay little blue 25lbs fake bombs). It's boring, and not nearly as bad *** I thought it'd be. So monotonous.

GP:

Your comments have me concerned; I realize that practice bombs are not "fun" but they are no less important for training purposes. And the fact that you have not been assigned to a DET in a combat area should be seen as a blessing in disguise.

During my time in, I saw many of my friends go out on DET, return 6-8 months later...only to get re-assigned to another DET. Of course, I was I-level as most of these Marines were also; they were needed not only to support the Squadrons on a Maintenance level, but to load/unload...supply...what ever it took to complete the mission.

You are probably wondering why I never went out; believe me I did volunteer!!! Every time there was a chance to have a female space, I was in the office...first in line. The choices were not mine to make and for that I suffered in my MOS, in my career and as a female Marine in general. I was told I was a more valuable asset back on station; I didn't need to be away from my family; every excuse a female Marine in my/our MOS could be given...SHIAT, even my husband called my shop to ask why I was being considered for a DET and he had been a Marine himself!! That made me furious!!!

The few exercises I was able to participate in were always stateside; WTI and CAX. We did use live ordnance then, and let me tell you...it was just as boring to use them...the procedures were the same...you are to comply with the same safety issues that you would with any others; we didn't get to see the results of our labors because our mission was support/maintenance/load/unload...not watch the fireworks...

...if it IS fireworks you wanted to see from Aviation Ordnance, you were mislead. The fireworks come from the pride you have knowing that you are part of an intricate working machine; each piece taking care of the other in the common goal of success.

IYAOYAS!
Cyn~

Same here...1969.
It was an 18 1/2 week course.
Barracks were the venerable wooden 2-story horse barns.
Open squadbays on the upper and lower deck ends...wooden decks.
We were the Marine Aviation Detachment (MAD), hence, part of our mailing address.
Our Det Co was a 'Mustanger', Captain C.R. Soldner.

Was back down there from May-Aug 1973 attending a 10-week course. It was at the Naval Drug Rehabilitation Counselor's Course School...damned if part of the classes and subject's barracks were the old AO/AE barracks!
