Considering the tower is the tallest structure on the FOB, built by stacking conex boxes together, safety is based upon how poor the taliban aim is.

I'd feel better knowing that I had US Marines on guard around the base instead of the Army, but beggars can't be choosey.

Mike, Sergeant Mike if I may, don't knock the army guards.

Hell, we had Thai's guarding Nam Phong (the Rosegarden). That made me very uncomfortable.

If you aren't familar with the Rosegarden here is a link.

++www.nampnong.com

Whoops. Leave out the ++ and just do a Google search of Nam Phong.

By the way, Happy Birthday Marine. Only two days away for you now. Smile

Bob,
When the Haj's (locals) are able to sneak through the wire and steal things off manned guard towers, or they cut the fence and steal sections you begin to worry.

I've seen soliders walk off and leave their weapons behind with Haj's (locals) around, I see messages weekly where some solider left his/her weapon in the mess hall, shower, or the gym. I would sure hope that this kind of stuff isn't happening on the Marine bases.

The majority of the individuals are some very good soliders, like all branches there are those that probably shouldn't be here, let alone in the military.

The army aviation folks work their butts off flying and performing maintenance. I like to joke with them when I get the chance but I can't dispute how well they get the job done.

The snake eaters (the guys who own the night) that go out each night hunting, are unbelievable individuals, you just can't say enough good about these guys and the job they do.

I have a lot of respect for these guys, and they deserve our thanks for being over here.
