Thanks for the pictures Bob. I haven't been at El Toro since 1965. There were many new buildings built since my days there. When I was there they were all WW 11 buildings as I recall. My mother passed away two and a half years ago and unbeknown to me, she had a 1947 El Toro year book. Except for the theater and one of the hangars in your pictures of the buildings were all different. I also noticed all the trees. The only big tree I can recall was the large pepper tree out at the stables, near what was then the new MAG-33 area.

El Toro holds a special place for us...wife and I were married one week when we moved to El Toro from the east coast in early March 1965. Found a place out in Corona del Mar... son was born there just before I shipped out to RVN in Feb 66....

I remember the drive to base from Corona del Mar every morning to the smell of orange ...10 miles worth of orange groves and open country... what a fantastic place. Orange County really had oranges

Went back for the first time in 2000...ALL GONE!!!! Wall to wall people.. condos.. highways...etc..etc...

but the memories they cannot take away.

I hear you, Bob. We also got married when I was at El Toro. Everything we owned fit in the back of our jeep, and we moved her out from Indiana. We lived in Trabuco Canyon until base housing opened up for us at Tustin.

Does anyone know what happen to the large bell that was hanging in front of the Administration building? The bell was presented by the Chinese Nationalist Government to the FMAW which had returned from Mainland China. I can't recall the year that the bell arrived, but it had to be before the Korean Conflict, as the Wing beat feet to the Far East.
