I think it's time we stood up and be counted for the different aircraft we have worked on and when. Aviation became a way of life for me as a result of the Corps.

Marine Corps...
F4B/J Phantom II - Intermediate Level Maintenance - Fire Control Systems
F4F Wildcat - Electrical Systems Restoration at Quantico Aviation Museum.

Civilian Life..
A10 Thunderbolt II - Electronics/Avionics Technician, Production Flight Test

P3B Orion - Avionics Technician/Engineer for the Naval Research Laboratory

CH53 - Iranian Hostage Crisis, Countermeasures Technician/Engineer

F5 - Chinese Air Forces, Engineer on Threat Simulation Devices

F/A18 Hornet - US Navy, Threat Simulation Test Devices Engineer, External Stores

F15E Strike Eagle - US Air Force, Engineer Red/Blue Team Systems Modifications Eglin AFB.

Most of my career was spent, maintaining, designing and modifying electrical, avionics and test systems on these aircraft. Flew as a civilian research scientist on the NRL P3 for 7 years. You can't go wrong with the wing. Worked for Fairchild Republic Aircraft and Kaman Aerospace Corporation.

I started with TA-4F and J's with VMT-203 at Cherry Point, March until November 1971. Went to Iwakuni and got assigned to VMA-AW-533 and the A-6 until 1972. What an aircraft when you're in Ordnance!!! Also helped load F-4B and F-4J while on the turnaround crew in DaNang.

Returned to the world and the A-4M at Beaufort with VMA-331 until August of 1973, then back to Cherry Point and helped VMA-231 stand-up with AV-8A's!!!Got out in June 1974.

Joined the local Air National Guard in 1976 when they were flying O-2's. It was a FAC squadron. Peice of cake for an old ordnance guy. Didn't have to load anything but 2.75" rockets!! Also got to fly when ever they had an open seat!!

They switched to the OA-37B in 1981 until I got out in 1984.

I worked passive and active electronic counter-measures on the EA-6A Electric Intruder and hung some ECM pods on the RF-4B Photo Phantom.
That was from '70 through '74.

Greetings;

It's great to see the variation of aircraft in this post. I myself worked on:
AH-1J, AH-1w, UH-1N 86-89
MD-11(three variants) and C-17 89 to 93
I now have quite a few injection molding machine variants under my belt but I don't think that counts here. Not many Marines have worked on C-17's, but I was out.

Phantoms at first...the smokers and then the S models.
Transitioned to Hornets....ah! So much simpler aircraft but not quite the charm of the old Double Uglies.
Now an ordie and seat mech on Hornets, E2/C2's, CH-46's, 53's and UH-1's.

Except when I was attached to an ACE (where MOS doesn't matter...you work on what's broke), I spent my whole career on ****ters (A/D/Es).

I once helped a CAPT pack his tail-shoot in an F-4 during a CCX. Does that count? Wink
