Read the other Ospery thread this is covered in it. Anytime a Marine dies it a bad thing, even more so if it's a piece time death. Let me ask you this. How many 46's and 53 have crashed in Iraq since the war started that have kill many more Marines than the Opspery has. Many, the Ospery has had 2 crash's. 46's and 53 are just as unsafe.

I believe the Osprey has had three crashes.

That bird is going to kill many more Marines and Corpsmen.

Mad

The Ospery thread is below this thread by 3 or 4 tops. It has 150000+ hits on it and 2600 replies. Give it a look 1st then if you feel the same I will reopen the one Fontmann opened. I view the Flight Demo and there was no crash, I will agree that the Pilot wss not the smoothest but that is a training issue. Once again you can look at non combat training missions where 14 to 24 Marines die a few times a year when a 46 or 53 crashes in training missions. Numbers can be skewed...

When I was in Yuma I had the oportunity to get a "ride" in one of those ospreys. They were asking for volunteers for Weight in the back. However that weekend our squadron had to work so they took me and my friend off the list. I saw all four of them take off that afternoon. Then I heard that one went down with those Marines in the back. I could not believe that that happened. I could have been on one of the those four Birds, the chances were 1 in 4 of being onboard that sad day. One of the other 3 did a hard landing as well.

There already is a Ospery thread 3 or 4 below yours that has 150000+ hits and 2600 replies. There is nothing new to what you have found if you have gone over the one below. If you feel after reading it that I have done you a injustice I will reopen your thread.

I would fly on the bird and I have no fear of sending my kid on the bird or anyone else's kid on it.

Would you rather them for them to take a Hummer on the river road, West of the Euphraties?

I'll fly on it, any time, any place. Even tried to once but I didn't have any press credentials.... Didn't get any BBQ either....

This aircraft is deployed now, where the bad guys are. We'll be seeing in short order what it'll bring to the table.
And, there ain't an aircraft out there that hasn't claimed lives, NONE...... Wink

With "objectivity" like that it's easy to see that the Peter Principle even infects the Corps.

When one takes into consideration that the B-2 fleet has an operational readiness rate of ~40% and is more pampered than any other aircraft in history except for perhaps the Spruce Goose, that's nothing to be touting.

aka The flying wing.
The flying wing in it's original development did take lives and the B2 is a derivative from these early models that paved it's way. But the B-2 itself has not claimed any lives....thankfully...... That is an impressive track record.

Course, at around 2.1 BILLION $$$$ an aircraft, it should be the safest, fastest and most technological aircraft ever made.....

No kidding. It was durng WTI. The first time the Marine Corps had the Osprey at WTI. I remembered that day. A couple of Marines in my shop were on the standby list but they did not make the cut. Sad day. We were lucky that none of the guys in my shop went.
