A U.S. Marine Corps CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter launches flares as it flies over the desert near Al Taqqadum, Iraq, on Feb. 24, 2008. The Sea Knight is attached to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 268 and is deployed with Multi National Force - West in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Al Anbar province of Iraq. Ron for the life of me,I can not remember that number at all. I did my first two pumps with it so you would think I would!

My last Phrog on the West Pac was 153386.

Who's a$$ ya gotta kiss around here to be able to post a picture?
Not that I got any I took in my old outfit....
Heck,
They'd send you to a weather station in the Ant-Artic for the rest of your 'hitch' if you got caught with a camera.
But I found some public domain pictures of Marine One that are pretty cool,
and was going to add one here.

Thanks, I will, I just couldn't figure out how to do it. The options or something wouldn't let me.I'll come back & work on it later and try to put 'em in here.

Well,
I couldn't get a picture to post, but here's a link. We've seen the phrogs- heck even one I probably worked on with a big Yankee Tango on the aft pylon.

So, here's one from the other helo unit I was with:
I didn't take it though, they were REAL adamant about their 'no photographs' policy.

Marine One

A note of interest-
I heard from a buddy a few years ago;
all the VH-3s in the Marine One fleet have logged over 100,000 Flight hours each--
totally accident free.
That's the first time its happened for any type aircraft 'in model'.

One of my Lawn darts, AV8A. VMA-231, the Fall of 82 on the USS Nassua of the coast of East Germany. A rare Landing on the nose of the ship, this pic was taken by me on top of the island...

Those things are so cool.

Watching them defy Gravity on TV commercials as a teenager was one of the reasons I enlisted on my 18th birthday, then went across the street and got my Draft Card-- back in March of '73.

The rest is history,
but after getting out in the Fleet:
I too learned what fragile pieces of sh## they really are.
And am forever glad I never had to turn a wrench on one.
(Much less, getting shot at, or mortared while doing so)

Somehow----
They remind me of the Osprey.
They make great commercials, but,,,,
aren't really destined to be included among the great a Warbirds of American history either..

////

Kind of like bestowing a scholorship to Harvard on a pig.
Dress him up in a Piere' Cardone suit,,,
say wonderful things about him,,,
fit him with (2 sets) of $500. a pair of Alligator shoes,
even graduate the rascal 'Magna C*Me Lade'.

But,
bear in mind,
there will come a day,,
and you'll have to fess up to the fact that the SOB is still, just a pig.

I can't let this go by without comment.....

"If your heart is strong, sometimes---
That's enough".

//

That Picture reminded me of one of my troopers.

SHE! was the pick of the litter of what I had to chose from, to be the next Flt. Equip. 'person' to become part of the Marine One Crew.

To make a long story short:
(Bear in mind,, this is a flashback to 1978)

As the NCOIC of the Executive Flight Detachment Flight Equipment Shop,,,, I won.

I got the best person for my shop from the Marines I had to pick from-
who were trained to do what we did,
and also had passed a Top Secret (with White House Access) Security Clearance.

She made out OK too.

She was a well tenured Sgt. when she re-inlisted at age 22.
And was also the first WM to earn the Presidential Service Badge***.

An amazing individual.
She'd climb up & down, or over a VH-3D like a squirrel.
After about 6 months, I didn't even check her work.
If she said a job was done, I CDI stamped it, without question.

***
If ya don't know what it is--
or how hard they are for a Marine to get,,
it's worth checking on to find out.
