Since we have a thread about Cherry Point, I would love to hear any "good" story coming from good ole Yuma. Stationed there with VMA-214 and 211 from 1995 to 2002. The thing I missed most about Yuma is the Mexican food in Algadones or Mexicali, darn good taco, and cheap too.

Use to like deploying to USMCAS YUMA. It was a change from MCAF Santa Ana (Tustin). The last time I recall of being there, was with HMM-361 in 1965 just before we deployed for Vietnam. We got a lot of shoot em time with our M-6Os

I agree shylano, the Mexican food was outstanding; I was there with MALS-13 Ordnance from Dec 91 - Mar 95.
"But, It's a DRY heat." got totally old after being stationed there for 3 1/2 years... ...Anything over 100 degrees is TOO farkin' HOT, IMHO... |

I was permanent personnel in VMT-103 at Yuma...66-67. That was probably the best stateside duty I had. We were a transition/training Sqdrn flying TA4s.

Ahhh yes the platinum cabaret. I don't know about missing coin nights there but I sure seem to be missing alot of coin from going there.
I miss that one mexican restaurant Mia Rancho over across from the Clarion Suites hotel. |

I was there '73 & '74 for different deployments. I remember trips to "Boys Town" (I think that's what it was called) eating at Denny's after the bars closed, and there was a bar in town that had Rock-N-Roll in one room, and Country in another and Big Band or something like that in another, the head was in the middle of the building and with enough alcohol finding your way back was always an experience. Hot as all gitout but normally a good time.

Stationed in Yuma 88-92 with VMA-311. Lots of good times (and bad) at Johnnys and meeting at Chesters Upchuck Wagon for breakfast. Yuma took a little getting used to, but was great duty after a while.

haha.. home of the mucho macho burrito!! that thing was like 10 pounds!!! hah, i could only eat like 1/4 of it and i was done. had to have room for the pitcher sized mucho macho margarita!! lol coin night = any drink in the place for any coin except a penny. we used to just give a waitress a 20 and tell her our table better be filled with drinks until coin night was over. beats standing in line holding that shiny nickle waiting for service. pete |

Used to deploy from MCAS(H)Tustin to Yuma every now and then.Is Johnny's or the Saddle Club still there.Remember that when the band used to take a break at the Saddle Club they would spin a roulette wheel foe the drink special.Whisky and coke for .25 a glass, didn't take too long to get to feeling good.

In 84, I remember watching a Brit exchange pilot, veteran of the Faulklands War, land a harrier "Wheels Up". He'd FORGOTTEN to drop the gear. Bit of a sticky wicket, what?

Did 2 tours in Yuma, '75-78 & '82-'84. Both tours with Special Staff. The best kept secret in the MC. One day the Blue Angels making their arrival, & the next, watching Marines strolling around in "movie extra" costume.

I was stationed in good old Yuma for too long. VMA-211 97-2001 and VMA 311 2002-2004. Miss it sometimes, Cherry Point isn't much better. Maybe it is because I am in VMAT-203. YEA
