Any new or old Crew Chiefs out there? I would love to hear some of your stories. My son is a very brand new Crew Chief in training at Cherry Point. Graduates on April 10th. He is a C130 (J) model Crew Chief. Thank you.

Laying low.

I'm still around...Kinda...In a pre deployment stage.

Dad, are you sure you want to hear Crew Chief stories? Most of 'em probably involve lots of booze, goats, and midget strippers!

Oh, wait, you mean flying stories! Well, this one time, we were on a cross country from Tustin to Cherry Point at about 3,000 MSL. When the dam goat got loose in cabin and kicked the midget we tied up to the............

Where is JPYH08?

The Gunny has some $hit that is excellent.

Couldn't drive a needle up my butt when I heard it.

The type of stuff I grew up on as a young green snuffie.

Yes RedRT, the new J model C130's have Crew Chiefs on them. They still have the loadmasters on them though.

LOL what an eye opener! My son just got his PDS orders, he is going Miramar, California. He is really excited. Remember this is a 20 year old, soon to be 21 in 4 months and has never really been out of South Carolina except for vacations when he was little that he really doesn't remember to well. He just bought a 2007 jeep x unlimited and is ready to go play in it. So he is looking forward to driving to Cali. He thought he was going to go to Japan at first and I have been messing with him about jumping the gun and buying a car before he knew for sure where he was going. I told him that if he had to go to Japan I would gladly take care and make sure his jeep was driven every single day.(lol) I dont think he liked the sound of that! But anyway, it all worked out for him. ( he got lucky)!! I want to thank all that serve in our beloved UNITED STATES MARINE CORP!! SEMPER-FI

As Ron says most of us are just hanging back drinking a cold one. Most of us were helicopter crew chiefs, as we became older our stories became more exciting. I am surprised that most of us survived some of our antics!

I hear ya, I'm a former Marine myself and I started out in supply on the ground side back in 1977 and was attached to Recon units. I had lots of fun but got tired of living in the dirt, so to speak. Then I got the opprortunity to swing with the wing when I reenlisted. I loved it. I was a IMA flight line level engine mechanic on A-4's and A-6's. Its 2 different world between the ground side and the airwing. Thats why I am so pleased that my son choose the aviation field. He is a c130 (J) Crew Chief. He graduates on April 10th. Then he is headed to Miramar MCAS for his PDS. He will be in the VMGR 352 squadron, (The Raiders). He is really excited and ready to work hard.

Congradulations Walker88! Applause My son will be graduating from Cherry Point on April 10th. But he still is not finished with his training. He will now go to the VMGR 352 squadron at Miramar for the rest of his training in the squadron. Miramar will also be his PDS. I believe he still will have another 6 months of training with his squadron before he will get his wings. It all depends on how fast they move, I guess. Once gets out out there he will know more. He is graduating from Cherry Point the TOP OF HIS CLASS! Beer I'm so proud of that boy of mine. I see you are on ch-53's. My son would of liked to have been on helos, but due to the vision requirements he was assigned c130's. It worked out for him though, he loves the c130 j model. Goodluck to Son! Applause

I have heard of some similar situations like your friends coming out of New River. When my son was in Pensacola, there was a Marine there that had already made it through every step of the way for crew chief on the osprey. When they were getting his paper work in order for him to go to the fleet, they realized that he was supposed to be fixed wing only and sent him back to pensacola for AD school. Needless to say he was pissed off. Well, he made it through AD school and went on to cherry point. He will graduate on the 10th with my son.
Good luck to you son
