Yup, former 6322 in particular; consider yourself privilleged because in terms of retirement that bird is about as overdue for retirement as Bob Barker was. Pensacola is a great place, barracks are nice, and the Museum is great. They used to call it NATTC when I was there but I think they call it something slightly different now. Your training in Pensacola is all fundamental theory, a lot of barracks games with a bunch of Squids, and a lot of PT since they want to instill upon you the discipline to stay in shape because once you get to the fleet you will have little time other than on your own time to PT. After that it's off to FREST which used to be HMT-204 but now their evidently VMT-204 for the Osprey's which you will eventually transistion to if you stay around awhile, but I imagine you'll still go to MCAS New River for that school somewhere on the base. Everything that you learned in Pensacola will be put on the back burner and your real education begins when you get to New River and especially so once you get to the fleet. The -46E has already got upgrades to it since I left at the turn of the millenium that make things a little easier for both the crew and maintainer, put look forward to lugging a generator from the aft of the boat where your avionics shop is to the bow where they park the Phrogs and after you hoist that heavy piece of junk up into place don't over torque the bolts! Oh, and have fun with the torque sensors on the engines, I don't know what Boeing was thinking when they put them where they did; maybe if you ask real nice you can have flightline drop the engines for you! And if you ever have a choice, take a Sh¡tter over a Phrog anytime you can! If you have any other questions just ask or IM me. |

The CH-46E FREST is HMMT-164 at Camp Pendleton. If he was going to be assigned to Ospreys he'd be a 6326. The 46s will still be around until 2018 (per the 2007 Av Plan). |

They probably won't let you out early, so I think they'll just re-assign you to a Rifle Company. (For the Grunts that see this: Hey, I was just kidding..) . |

No argument here. Of all the things I did, and the places I went on my glorious 7 & 1/2 year tour,,, Nothing ever gave me more pleasure than 'out Grunting' the Grunts..... Be it on the rifle Range, or as part of a Air Wing unit on a Grunt Base and seeing the results of a IG or CG Inspection come in. However: I never forget that Artillery adds dignity to what would otherwise-- just be a bloody mess. .. |
