Some years while serving aboard the USS Princeton, I recall it was an operation off Taiwan. One the procedures that were called for at that time was. The day before the landing the Crew Chief was to handle the brief on the day before, for the helo teams. I can still recall the one of many brief I had that day.
First of all let me explain the location of the relief tube in the cabin of a H-34D. It was attached to the engine drive shaft cover. Just above, aft and to the right of where the Crew Chief's seat was. Back to the brief. I was standing on the flight deck at the cabin door, going thru my little speech. We were just about finished when this young Marine moved into the Crew Chiefs seat, looked at the tube, took it down out of the holder and started talking into it....Testing, one ,two, three. He repeated this a couple of times before replacing the tube. So I ask if there any questions? Nope, no questions. I had one last item. "The flight to the beach tomorrow will only be about 15 minutes. Now pointing to the **** tube, I don't think you Marines will be needing the **** tube." The cabin became a roar. S/F Tipath |

We use to have a make shift pizz tube back on the 410 station, off the step well drain.
The grunts would be told that it was part of the ICS. That stuff is still going on. When my kid went up to fleet week this past May, on the Kersarge, he was on the flight deck bsing with the A/C and they tried to pull the same stunt. "Wrong, my ole man was a Winger and I'm wise to y'alls $hit." |
