I tried posting this in the wannabe section... suprise suprise they dont know much aviation..lol...
1. My contract reads AG/enlisted flight crew. It also reads eyesight not worse than 20/70 one eye and the other not worse than 20/100 and then at the end of that section it says if you dont meet these requirments then the Corps can put you anywhere they want. My vision is 20/200 correctible to 20/20 as per Meps inspection. I havn't seen a waivor yet. Any advice?
2. I very much want to fly. Im a smart, highly motivated kid and I plan on doing everything in my power to be a pilot(as for the eyesight my civi. eye doc. claims that I will be the perfect candidate for surgery). Any of you guys got a good opinion as to why I should or shouldn't go through the enlisted side? can I commision before im done with my original 5 year t.o.e.?
3. I live in eastern NC and I would very much like to visit a base and talk with some enlisted flight crewmen and pilots and see if this is trully for me.
oh yes, they keep feeding me some line about its just gotta be correctible to 20/20... but as directly qouted of my S.O.U or the job sheet
"vision no worse than 20/70(distant) in one eye and 20/100(distant) in the other with overall vision correctable to 20/20(distant)"
I havnt seen a waiver and they keep acting like its not a big deal but I think that either there just telling me b/c im a very good recruit and they want me at all costs or they just dont know or are carless readers... idk

hmm.. i dont want to piss in your cheerios- but lmao... i'd bet a high and tight on the latter. pete
by the way... if your eyesight is in fact past the point of no return and they didnt catch it at meps.. they WILL cath it at NOMI in pensacola.. iirc, the physical there was about 3 whole days. they were going to drop me from the aircrew program because my iron count was .2 too high (or low, i dont remember).
Just to echo what Pete said, if you slip through meps with your eyesight problems, trust me they will catch it at NOMI. It almost happened to my son last July 07. He was almost dropped from the NACCS for it. But he made it. I cant remember the exact percription his was, but it was corrected to 20/20. But because of the vision he is fixed wing only. He got crew chief of c130 J model. He originally wanted ch46's, Hell he was just happy not to get dropped because of it. But now he would not trade the C130 J model for anything, he loves it!! and also when he went to bootcamp, {LMFAO} They fitted him with those BCG glasses, his eye exam was even different then at meps. They said he had 20/400 in both eyes at Parris Island. LMAO,! He of coarse he does not, but they gave him a prescription for 20/400 in both eyes. (DAMN ISNT THAT LEGALLY BLIND??) That kid of mine went through all of bootcamp with them damn glass's,(OR LACK OF) well he did not where them most of time,(how he got away with that, hmmm) he said he never put the strap on the back of them. I laughed my azz off when it was time for him to go the rifle range, lets see, wrong prescription BCG, do you shoot?? or do you take your chance without them and just aim?? Well thats what he did, he just focused, LOL what little he could, and damn if he didnt atleast get sharp shooter!! Well I guess I ran my mouth long enough! By the way his vision is 20/75 in one eye and 20/100 in the other. Both correctable to 20/20! So all is good and he passed his flight physical and made it through the NACCS with absolutly no holds. So there is hope!!! Now as far as being a pilot, well that is what my son whould love to do. But them DAMN eyeballzzz you know!!! PS dont be to hard on me for them TYPOS SEMPER FI Bruce PMD of Lcpl Eric c130 J model Crew chief in Training. Graduates Cherry Point Top of his class April 10th. Then to PDS Miramar CA
