I tried a search on this but not much came up. Anyway, my MOS was just changed to 6500, which I'm pretty happy about. Could anyone tell me anything about this MOS?
You will love aviation ordnance, I was Squadron level for four years on helicopters. You will not fight a tighter nit shop in the airwing. I am currently doing a b billet as a MSG, wish I could get back to the fleet.
Aviation Ordnance is the only MOS!!! IYAOYAS!!! You will find that being an Ordnanceman you will be in the tightest shop in the Wing! I wouldn't have wanted anything else!!! Semper Fi
I had the choice of going either CFR or Ordnance. I thought Ordnance was the way to go, but everyone I talk to is like, "You took Ordnancce over CFR? WTF?" I don't know, I guess it's just me, but building bombs and putting them on planes seems far cooler than being a fireman.
Absolutely!!! Ordnance is great! You'll be surprised how many of the other shops want to be around when you are hanging Ordnance on those birds. Ordnance works hard and parties hard and like I said before you get really tight! We did everything together and remember without Ordnance those aircraft are just fancy flying machines!!!
CFR sucks, you sit on the hot flight line all day hoping some one is about to crash, I talked to a lot of people and it is very boring, they rarely deploy and have a lot of routine scheduled things like PT and inspections. If you are O Level you won't have to worry about that especially if you are with a deployable squadron. You'll work hard and play hard. You won't regret it. You'll get a lot of slack about not working until you are on the boat, WTI or deployed somewhere and you are the ones making all the money, and yess everyone will want to load bombs or rocket pods, but they can't. IYAOYAS!!!!!
You'll love squadron level ordnance. People will leave you alone for the most part. Sure, you'll get some hazing, but when there is a live ordnance exercise, everyone will come up to you and ask every stupid question about the ord you just hung (even the pilots).
Oh and by the way don't get down in Pensacola and whatever C school you go too. They are gonna restrict your libbo, take a bunch of p p test, make you fail field day on purpose. Don't let it get you down, they fleet is nothing like school, I was at a squadron for over 3 years and never had a uniform inspection, and field days arent that bad at all. IYOYAS

Thanks for that tip, cause to be honest, I am starting to get a little "down" here.
I went through PCola in Jan 98. Do they still have the LEAD program? The MOS is a good one, regardless of the platform, although I am partial to the AV8. Enjoy PCola though while you are there. Lots of good times once you put the books down.
Yeah, they have LEAD still. I went through it, got 3 MCIs done. Was SSGT Miller running it back then? I swear those officers PTed the hell out of his every day. It was good though, and I'm glad I did it.
4 some of you, there is a Association of Aviation Ordnancemen!!!(known as AAO's) it is a Navy/Marine orgnazation, so find out about it. i have been in another accident, but as usual, IT'S HARD TO KILL A GOOD MARINE !!! if you want to know more about me, ask & we can uelp a bunch of lost memories because of this last accident. my address is ehalderman@AOL.com so SEMPER FI!!! other spot is MAG-12 & 13, & VMFA-232(RED DEVILS), or turn around crew NCOIC/ DaNang,RVN.
Try not to let Pensacola beat you. I was an instructor there from 00-03. The town is great and there's some awesome places to hang out and eat at. The Fish House has great food. There's a place in the ****ty downtown part of Pcola that serves awesome hamburgers. We always called it the Blue Dot because it didn't have a name. It just had sign with a blue dot out front. There's a kick azz mexican restuarant downtown that has a salsa bar and good burrittos. I can't remember the name of it though. I'm sure you've discovered Seville's and the beach on the weekends. Enjoy the town while you can. It may very well be one of your better duty stations. Don't sweat the small stuff like games at the bks and the schoolhouse. Live for the libbo.
