I spent my 2nd tour after latmoving and schooling at the pit. It was good. Had a decent time there when I was there.

I left in 98, I have heard a lot has changed.

I do miss spending only 4.00 for hair cut, I am spending 18-22.00 now Eek

Used to park at the Skyline every now and then.

~All, I was wondering where i can purchase an Officers' Dress Blues Uniform . My father was a Colonel in the Marine Corps, and unfortunately he is not expected to live too much longer. I am interested in getting him a dress uniform, and also interested in information about a full military funeral with honors and flyby, he was a Marine Aviator (VMF-212) Any help on these subjects would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
My condolences on your fathers failing health.

I would suggest that you contact your nearest VA facility concerning the full military funeral or, any military organization like the Marine Corps League, Marine Corps Association, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, etc...these organizations will have the most up to date information and/or forms that you would need.

As for the fly by, you may have to contact someone in a higher position, but again someone at the VA most likely can give you that information.

Now, concerning the Uniform, if you know of any of your father's retired friends, you might want to get in contact with them and see if they can purchase one on a base close by to them (if feasible) or through the MCX catalog; although that would be quite expensive.

I know that people sometimes sell MC Uniforms on E-Bay, but I don't know if you want to go that route...you might also want to try some Army Navy Surplus stores or websites.

I do wish you much luck in getting all this together for your ailing father; GOD bless you and him, as well as your family. Please thank and salute him for me, a Veteran Marine Corps Aviation Ordnance Repair Tech, for his service to our country please.

Semper Fidelis,
Cyn~

I was at Cherry Point from Jan 89 to Mar 94. I was with SOES and Mals-14. I even did some night work out at Peggy's topless bar. A little bouncer and bartender work didn't hurt me. What went on after hours was pretty nice. JR's bar was a good place to have a drink and a burger. I went by the nickname "TRASHMAN" while I was there. I really had a good time at the pit.

I was stationed at Cherry Point from 1971 to 1974. I worked at "STAOPNGRON" aka SOES as a weather observer. At that time Col. Stennis was the CO. He was a nephew of Senator Stennis and he was a real stickler. My CO in the Weather office was CWO4 Geoge Walker. He was the Senior Warrant Officer in the Marines. He'd been in for 34 years and had no intention of getting out. He probably died in his chair. I worshipped the ground he walked on. God I miss those days. I had a lot of friends in Flight Control too.

Never thought I would say this, but I miss the Point. I left there in September for Okinawa and yes is its really nice over here, the freedoms and simplicity of Cherry Point were great.

I went to the law offices inside the Generals Building once when I was on a brig run, and if he is working there, then he definetly fits in with "cush and lazy" attitude of the winger! Big Grin

Served 76-79 at H&MS-32, MAG-32. Worked in the HUD/INAS shop, w/c 635 I think. Nearly went Deaf at Atlantic beach sittin 3' from the speakers during a Molly Hatchet concert, more drinkin stories that I care to remember. Wasted a nice Formula Firebird out drivin' crazy on nine mile road. Hung out alot at Burtons bar...don't know if it's still there...got my first tatoo in the bathroom of the PD (Pirates Den - now that place has gotta still be there). Life was a party back then...I wonder how I ever lived through it. Heckuva lotta fun.

I grew up on Cherry Point, from '82 to '93. My step-dad was a CH-46 mechanic.

Proud to say I'll be reporting into MASS-1 at Cherry Point for my first duty station at the end of June. Big Grin

I was there from 89-94 and again 2002-04 when I retired. The Pit will always hold great memories for me. I was there when "Flamigos" burnt to the ground. Took "Burton's" with it. Remember "Big Daddy's". Spent many a drunken night in that place.
