Don't forget Burton's or the Wagon Wheel with their fine representatives of the local trailer parks.

I remember back when I was 19 or so and was making a whopping $202 every Pay day as a Lance over 3. We were walking back from Opels and got so banged up. We hopped the fence before the gate and performed our best 03 low crawl to the Flt line, and crossed it!!! hopped the fence into the NADEP and stumbled back to Barracks 206 across the street from the Armory, the last "H" Barracks to be knocked down.

Was he a Marine or Civ? I was there from Late 84 to Early 88. The Name does not ring a bell.

Or was it Gafne? Big 'ol farm boy, was a hydraulics mech. Poor guy re-enlisted intending to go to Embassy Duty and he ended up standing a post at NADEP.

It was mid 80's when you mentioned NADEP it rang that bell. He was a good guy sad to see that happen. On the same topic (it figures) I met a Helo crew cheif in Futenma who wanted to take a break from the stateside, float, Oki grind, Went MSG and got got posted US Consulate Naha. The Green Machine works in strange ways at times.

The last 117's retired out of Iwakuni about late '82. The H&MS squadrons are now known as MALS squadrons (Marine Aviaton Logistic Support?)

Old Cherry Point, what a place. Retired in 1994 after 20 years. I was stationed at Cherry Point for a total of 10 years. I was there in 1974-1976, then again 1986-1994. The rest of my time was in Yuma, AZ. I started with VMA-231, then went to VMAT-203, then to VMA-513 Det "A". After I came back to Cherry Point I went to VMAT-203 and then VMA-231. I retired from the same unit I started my career in. I came full circle. I do miss those times in the Marine Corps, I made a lot of friends and traveled to a lot of places. Semper Fi!!

Cheerless Point- I was there in 53-55, with VMF-122. We had the FJ-2s. I remember in 54 when the reserves came in with their Corsairs. In those days some of the 'boots' in the reserves had not even been to boot camp. One day at the PX the CG showed up, and two of those clowns were sitting outside on the steps, and didn't even stand when he approached, much less salute. I was standing there, a PFC, holding on to a salute while enjoying him screaming at them. In a few minutes MP's started to arrive. I'd like to go back and see the place again. Is there any problem getting on base? Lots of memories for me from back there. Havelock, New Bern, etc.

moose,
If you still got your DOD decal on your car, then you should be able to drive right up, if not they may require you have a "military sponsor" which if thats the case, I'd be more than happy to meet you at the gate and get you a 3-day pass or something like that |

Went to my "O"(6541) school there between Aug 91 - Nov 91. Personally, I liked it there; the base was kept up very nice and after I bought my car (yeah, I know...student's weren't supposed to have POV's), I would have no problems getting out and about for the "night life" with my gal pals...

Good call SgtCyns, ever make it up to Greenville and ECU? I was up there a few weekends ago and went to about 4 different bars on the same block of the street, the best part was my buddy's girlfriend's "twins" got us in free to every single one! It truly is amazing how much power a woman has in her shirt and in her pants!

Here is a picture of the four of us about to leave for one of our night's out...I am on the far left side of the picture...take into account that I am approx. 10-12 years OLDER than these girls...I went through boot camp with the young lady in all white; her name was Suzanne Barber then...she got married after she hit the fleet to another AO guy from my shop and our class from CP...his name escapes me right now, but he got sent to Kaneohe Bay...
The young lady next to me, I can't remember her name; and the young lady on the far right's name was Tina Fargo...
First off...please call me Cyn~ Yes, we did go to Greenville once or twice...did some "shiat kicking" there a few times... This message has been edited. Last edited by: SgtCyns_New_Beginning, |

Sgt Cyns- Wow!! The old Corps didn't have good looking gals like you around---take it from me. I was at Cheerless Point in 54-56. We used to get 96's (rarely) and would hitch hike to DC to get a look at the other sex. I remember the WM barracks had a Master Sgt. in those days who smoked BIG cigars. One night we walked by that barracks, which was all lit up. She appeared at the door and yelled in a good command voice "get the hell off my grass". We did! There were not many Woman Marines in my day, in fact I rarely saw one. Looks like times have changed-----and for the better!!!
