Be carefull on how you pursue this, some might read it for something you did not mean it to be. Although it's been some years since I was at Cherry Point. What has changed in the area's you mentioned?
Ya, watch what you say. Some people in here believe that a LCpl should have the same responsibilities as NCO's. I disagree, but I guess things have really changed since 1992 and I guess the 03XX's don't see it the same way either.
In a lot of places and MOS's NCO's seem to be a dying breed. They are supposed to be the backbone of the Corps and something to be achieved, but it seems that is all wishy-washy now. The lines are very blurred and I don't think that is a good thing.
I'm good at my job, spent 7 months in Iraq doing it and now i've come home with stuff to share, I want Marines to want me to teach them. I don't believe that we should DEMAND respect. It's different, alteast where I work than it should be at certain times.
On a good day us NCOS are treated like we should, bad days, well, we're taken out the trash like the troops.
I worked myself to where I am now. I'm proud to be an NCO. I just wish it was respected however I don't want to demand it. I want to earn it.
This topic is open for discussion, tell me what you all think, it's your opinion and that's all I want. We're all entitled to our opinion. No one is wrong here.
It sounds like to me that the there is more to be said than want you have said. I can't see if there was someone junior you that you took out the trash over them unless someone above you was tring top make a point with you. Where you the only one there and it needed to be done? Was you and the Lt the only ones there? Was the LT going to do it? Where I'm going is that this is subjective, we don't know all of the issues you face. Maybe it's you and NCO School might be a good idea. I saw a few folks that should not have been promoted when I was in. I'm not saying you not a good NCO, but one thing the Marine Corps tought me was to take crap at different levels as it comes to us at all levels. The good thing about that is that it can roll down hill.
I can't do Cpls Course, I have had three knee surgeries and going in for a knee replacement. Otherwise I would love to. I want to be a good leader, get better everyday.
I'm not afraid to make mistakes as long as I learn from them.
i guess the question that comes to my mind is how you are percieved by your higher ups. are they looking at you as "just another technicion", or are they looking at you as an nco? and if so, why is that? its been my expeiriance in the "world" that at 1st you're a tech, then when they see your compatence as a tech and your ability as a leader, then they will start to look at you as an nco. just my opinion, and my 25 yrs of life exp in the tech world.
I've only ever had the opportunity to be in the Air Wing. I like it but I can't really compare being and NCO to anything else like ground side. I'm a natural leader I just think sometimes we're all looked at like just another Marine. I can see what you mean. I agree that we have to earn the respect. I'm not saying it should be given. I'm only hear to get ya'lls opinion.
I used to come on here right after my late fiance' was killed in Iraq but I was angry. I would lash out at people for their opinions. I'm changed. Been to Iraq, married to a Sgt...I think differently.

Hannah, I'm going to post more about your question tomorrow, but thank you for your service and welcome home.
Sorry, but a 2-1/2 hour delay in my flight has me crapped out. Oh and Congrats on your Marrage. He is sure one lucky fellow.
i think you may be onto somthing there, it is a little bit different on the ground side. while my exposure was to it was small, only 6 months or so, nco's are treated a lil bit different. now i can't tell you why, maybe gy irwin can. also trainging commands place a LOT of enphasis on nco's. they have a lot of responsabilities, extra duties etc put on them there, and are held to a higher standard as well.
