Go/call your local American Legion. The Adjutant or Service Officer can help/advise you on all of these type problems. It's really pretty easy to get a copy of your DD214. Mistakes/problems happen, don't beat yourself up about it.
The website for the American Legion is legion.org. Check it out.

Thank you for serving our country. Your sacrifices are appreciated. You deserve all the assistance we are able to give you and more.

God Bless,
Rita

Rita, they are available online fron the National Archives. YOu download a form, fill it out and send it in and in a couple of weeks you get a copy, plus some other useful forms.

Just as an add on to Daves post.

When you go to the link he gives above, click on the "Use our eVetRecs system to create your request" button. Doing this will generate an electronic request straight to NPRC.

At the end of the process you will print 2 pages..sign and print your name on one of the copies and either fax or mail it to the address or fax number on the other page. If you do not send in the signature page, your request will not be completed. I personally suggest faxing it and keep a copy of the fax confirmation page.

I did it and was almost shocked and how qucik they where in sending the document to me. I was also suprised that it was they same crummy typed form I received in 1977.

They also send Certification of Military Service with a Seal to use for verification for places you do not want to share your DD-214. This may be used for any official purpose, and only has the basic information, so that if you do not want all your details to someone that are on a DD-214, this is a great document.

I received 2 copies of both, plus a Bupers form I have never seen, that is somewhat wrong. Great -it came for the CN Pers's office.
