I have seen about 10 different winter outlooks over the past 2 weeks, and every single one of them forecast temps below normal for the Mid Atlantic, Northeast, and Great Lakes. Higher than normal precipitation for the Mid Atlantic and Northeast, and average precip for the Great Lakes and Mid West.

Totalled, Richmond VA should see 10", DC should see around 24" of Snowfall. Baltimore and NYC, 30". Boston 45".

Two large Noreaster are now on the long range models. The coldest periods should be the last half of December and the Last half of January. A White Christmas is certainly a possibility this year for many.

If one looks at the old folk tales for Winter outlooks, the wolly bears have very wide bands, and squirrels are busier than usual gathering, and its been a colder than average Aug-Sept for many.

We are moving into a neutral state on ENSO (El Nino-La Nina). 7 out of the top 10 coldest winters have occured during a neutral period.

All together, this tells me if you snow ski, get ready, you may have the best Winter you have seen since 2003 on the way.

Every fall we have a festival in honor of the Wooly Bear. It's only one day and our town of 10,000 grows to around 100,000 for that day. The day ends with a reading of the wooly bear's bands. They show that we are in for an average winter, here on the south shore of Lake Erie. Or, as we like to say, the Northcoast of the USA.

Looks like good old winter in the Tip of the Mitt. Areas have over 30 inches on the ground with more to come and it is only the first week of Dec. Looking more and more like a white Christmas. I see it as white gold $$$.That is barring any break downs, after that it is just damn snow.

My son called from Kuwait a couple weeks ago complaining about the cold. He wanted me to mail him some long sleeved t-shirts for layering. It was getting down to 60 at night. And this is the kid who likes to be on top of the mountains in Vermont during the winter. I guess the days of 120 thinned his blood a bit.

Looks like it could turn into a pretty big ice storm in my area? Last year at this time we got some major snow and the worst commute of the winter for most folkss headifng out of town and down the 128 HW. Some commutes around the city took 5 hours with many cars running out of gas on the highway.
I'm heading to a holiday party that night intown.
Lets hope for the best!

I guess I will add my $.02, I am heading to my winter quarters in Key West on Jan. 8 and not returning home until March 4, living on my boat....sorry guys didn't mean to put a frown on anyone, careful now with those descriptive words.
Anyone have a forecast on the wind patterns down there?

Increasing probability that Maine will see Blizzard conditions at some point. Once thing thats certain, is its a snowstorm, and its a big one for the North East and possibly Northern Mid Atlantic.
