I am about nine months in the Navy as an Engineering Aide in the Seabees and am 22 years old. Held highest leadership position in "A" school, currently taking college courses. I am not in a battalion so i can't get my warfare pin yet. I have taken some college prior Navy. I want to go STA-21 into the Nursing Corps and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on that, i.e. advice, what my chances are, etc. I am filling an instructors billet currently. Also, I am pretty sure that you only have to be in for 2 years to apply for STA-21 Nursing Corps and that's when I want to submit my packet, what are my chances of getting in this early on in my career.

You'll hear a lot of opinions about applying now vice later. Who told you that you had to be in for 2 years? There are no minimum time in service requirements for STA-21. Read here: Nurse Corps Program Option

We have universities, where men go to become great thinkers. They have no more brains than you have. But they have one thing you haven't got: a diploma.

They are really short on nurses, so chances of getting selected to the nurse corps option are high. my husband almost applied for the nurse corps for this reason. he ended up going for and getting select to nfo...another understaffed field. (pilot is full, of course.) just do well, and you will be fine. my husband had 8 years in and was an E6 when he got selected, but he went to NSI with very junior sailors as well. as long as your package looks good, you will be fine. the fact that you have some school already is a major plus, as you only have a max of 3 years to complete a degree. if you don't get picked up the first time, keep working hard to improve your package and resubmitting. it took my husband 3 tries to get selected.
