My son, OS2, is currantly on a ship at an overseas command, his 1st tour. He is up for orders and here's the rub. He hates his job. He was selected and graduated from rescue swimmer school and is serving in this capacity as 1 of 2 guys for his command. This he loves. He has looked into rate changing to AW but they are all filled. He has a Senior Chief from ATG talking to his detailer to try and get him orders to ATG. His detailer says no because my son will have only served 36 of 54 months of required sea time. Right now he is seriously leaning toward extending at his command until his EAOS and then getting out. Any suggestions? He's pretty stuck and the Navy will be losing a good sailor. Thanks.

Has he talked with the detailer or looked at CSM(online detailing program) to see what billets are available? He could also look at jobs that may require training enroute such as Combat controller or LCACs that he may like better than his current duties but stay in his rating.

I just emailed him your info. Thanks. He is out to sea right now. I don't know what he has done so far. I did make sure to tell him to be sure about his decision to get out before he talks this over with his detailer. He doesn't want to sound like he is threatening anyone.
