Are study groups for advancement against Navy Regulations?

While I was in; my command at the company level would arrange and encourage study groups for guys struggling with advancement tests.

One of my Career brothers stated it is and has always been against the regulations he even goes as far to say you are not supposed to get your spouse involved.

All comments are welcome!

cb,

Interesting topic! In this case, I have not looked in the advancement manual to see if it's true or not. I do know my reserve unit (and we're intel) holds study sessions on drill weekends.

Perhaps we're all just WRONG to do so...lol...even though it can be a great study tool to help people!

Cheers,
IS1(SCW)

The class that I was part of in VP-30, we held them for the younger more inexperienced enlisted personnel. Helped them get through FRAMP.

I don't see the harm in studying in a group. Doesn't the navy thrive on Teamwork?

Never heard that one before. We used to study in groups all the time. With our exam info being classified, we could only study at work. Made studying in a group seem even more like the right thing to do.

Allow me to clarify my original post, when I was refering to my Career brother he is in the Air Force and he told me that it is against there regulations to study in groups or involve your spouse while preparing for an advancement exam.

I never heard of this before and was inquiring whether it was also against the Navy Reg's as well?

Recently I was told that depending upon your rate & rank (classified type fields) that there is an article that discourages studying in groups. Although it may be an unwritten rule rather then an article...if it is written I will post it...

pick ur rate = pick ur fate reigns true, we never had time for anything but work during the day in the GREEN MACHINE!!! Studying during working hrs I have never heard such a thing!

I think someone is drawing a fine line here. Its oka,y to do it in the shop under the guise of in rate training, but not as a group from the same group if we do it in the barracks or a private home? BULL!

I didn't say we studied during working hours, I said we studied AT work. Because our RTMs were classified, they had to be kept locked up in the safe when not in use. That meant staying after hours to study.

Opinions Vary!

TMC,
My comment was not an attempt to ruffle your feathers, it was just a CB to Fleeter Jab!

Especially if you happen to be studying a classified RTM. Wink

we did it at the head quarters but never in the barracks and never at home, that I was aware of anyway.

CB,
you sure have a way with finding the thin skins during your threads...
