So I just made ET1, and I was checking to see when I would officially be an E-6 and instead of a date I see this...
quote:
1. SUBJECT CANDIDATE HAS BEEN SELECTED AS A PRIMARY ADVANCEMENT TO ET1 . MEMBERS EFFECTIVE DATE OF ADVANCEMENT HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED.

My question is when and how will I find out when my Effective date is?

Your command will receive notice when the time comes. How many increments were authorized in this publication? If it was 3 (JUL, AUG, SEP) then you know you will be in the second 3 (OCT, NOV, DEC). Increments are determined by the FMS order of the individuals authorized advancement.

Congratulations on the advancement, will_k78. My son just made ET2 on this cycle with a score of 80.00 on the test (best possible score on the curve from what I understand). I know this doesn't answer your question, but as a proud father, I just had to brag on him a bit.

Congratulations to both of you, and all of the others who made their advancements.

that's great k5ing... to be honest I don't even remember what I cut when I made 2nd (heck it's been 6 years). That is indeed a perfect score, and very very difficult to do on an ET exam.

I'm aware that they do it based on your FMS, however I came in 15 points over the cut and would have thought that it would be earlier than that. Where would I find how many increments were authorized?

Talk to your PSD/ESO. Maybe Navy Times. Talk to your shipmates. You are selected for E6 (Congrats) - show some initiative. Smile

Advancement increments for E4-E6 are determined by "relative standing" among selectees, which is defined by the total of exam standard score and PMA from your evals. This is outlined in BUPERSINT 1430.16F. For E7-E9, increment is determined by seniority among selectees.

So for E4-E6, if you cut an 80 on the exam, AND you maxed out on evals (i.e., straight 4.0), then you WILL make first increment.

By the way, I did this when I made PN2. Good on you if you did it off the March exam.

However, when going up for Second Class, making the first two increments is not something that you want to do off of a September exam if you were straight EP's as a Third Class. I made that mistake, and had to get ranked with the "big dogs" instead of the people that I made it off of the September exam with. So be careful.

We have universities, where men go to become great thinkers. They have no more brains than you have. But they have one thing you haven't got: a diploma.

If you look at your adancement sheet on BOL it should have your pay increment. At least, that's how it was when Adam made it 2 years ago.

...Yeah, read the Navy Times. Don't ask people on the internet who have been involved.
