I enlisted last August, graduated boot in April, and am still on hold of AT 'O' A school in Pensacola.
I picked up a copy of Navy Times today and read the CREOs for my rate am a bit ticked off. I asked for IT, IS, and CTN. They told me No, and gave me AT'O'. I dont have an overwhelming desire to be an AT, I'll do it, and I'll do it well, but am kinda upset that the ratings I wanted are all undermanned. Is it possible to cross rate before I've started 'A' school? I got a 95 on the ASVAB and my line scores qualify for every rating in the Navy. I enlisted as E-1, and got E-3 in boot camp for recruiting and then a meritorious advancement. My student record is flawless. The only hang up is I admitted experimental marijuana use when I enlisted. I HAD debt, but paid it all off since I've been in. I'm also very serious about the Navy, and being a lifer. Any help is appreciated. |

Just remember that there have been two advancement cycles since you entered DEP last August and choose a rating made available based on the CERO and other factors in effect at that time. So what is an undermanned rating now has nothing to do with what they were back when you signed an enlistment contract. |

Im lost on this...You signed the contract with AT on it which was your choice..they gave you nothing..they offered and you took it...and then you havent even started A School...how do you even know you dont want to do it?
Why not stick it out and see what its like...and if you dont like it when your in a few years you'll do PTS and at that time request the conversion to one of those other ratings. Just my 2 cents MA2(EXW) |
