I am a 15 year Navy veteran and a First Class (AW1). I am assuming I may have to force convert my rating due to medical reasons. I only have 5 years left in and on the verge of making Chief, so I believe. I think this conversion thing is going to kill my chances of that unless I make it on this cycle. I have also looked at the CREO message and it is slim pickins as far as my situation is concerned. Has anyone been in the same situation, and how did the rest of your careear go? What rates are recommended for so late in a career to have some chance. I was asked to pick 5 rates regaurdless of the CREO so there may be some light. Please reply if you have some knowledge of the topic or valuable info, preferably from some senior enlisted leadership.

If you have recruiting or CCC experience, consider Navy Counselor.
Woody Allen once said that any man who makes a pun should be 'drawn and quoted.' |

You may also want to look at special programs such as drug counselor or other options that would help for employment once you retire.
Alternatively you could ask for permanent limited duty and get instructor duty at "A" school. Depending on your medical condition you may also be able to run the quals at training tanks? |

I've been a career counselor for 5 years. Maybe I can help. - Changing rates won't kill your chances of making chief. You'll just need to excel in the new rate. And it's more about leadership abilities at our paygade. Show the Navy your ability to adapt and overcome. - Whoever told you to pick a CREO 3 rate was incorrect. You can only pick CREO 1 o 2 IAW MILPERSMAN 1440-010, para. 8.b. http://buperscd.technology.navy.mil/bup_updt/508/milpers/1440-010.htm - You should take an ASVAB prep class at the nearest Navy College Office and re-take the ASVAB. Once the new scores are sent to your command, your CCC needs to enter them in Fleet RIDE. Then he/she can print out your Fleet RIDE report to check which rates you qualify for. - Keep in mind that any new duty you might chose, such as Instuctor Duty, requires Special Duty Screening. Your medical situation may disqualify you. |
