Hi im masa hopper im a reservist goin to go active after my reserve contract is up, i want to go to some extra schooling to develope in my rate before i go full active. Any advice will help thanks
What schooling do you think will help? Have you been to 'A' school?
As far as active side if you've already been thru 'A' school then dont worry as you'll get plenty of OJT to develop you into a more knowledgeable MA.
A good option is also to order the MA, BMR and Military requirements for 3rd and 2nd class petty officer manuals thru the Navy advancement site. Once you get those take the time to do the assignments in the back and you should get alot of the knowledge(thereotical knowledge) that you will soon learn on the job.
Good Luck and remember once on active their is no bad duty stations so make the effort at each one you get to.
Another thing to do while you are still a reservists, speaking from experience, is talked to your LPO or Chief, whomever is over training, and see what all funding is available for you to do some schools...there is ususally an abundance of funds for training...and if you have the time and can get some AT or ADT for training....do it...or even try to do some of the IAs that are getting emailed out daily...that will get you anywhere from 30-365 days of active duty kicked to you and will show you a side of what active duty life will be so you can make sure its something you truly want...but mos def do what MA2 said about those 3 courses.. you can finish them in about a month if you truly buckle down on them...but try to retain the knowledge...as those 3 books will be, for the most part, your 2nd and 3rd class exams...
Thanks MA2 and MA3 im definitely going to look into the advancement site and go some at and adt for some experience for time and rate. I know right know im going into MSD unit but when i go active what can i do to become SECO and COG or anything to excel greatly but thank you and i realy appreciate everything. MASA
You can buy a CD from Northstar Study Guides thats like 90 dollars but it goes over all sorts of MA knowledge and general military requirements and puts it in the form of a test. I enjoy it and use it for advancement. But yeah, you're going to have to OJT from the bottom up every command you go to. The higher up in rank you get you will still have to...but you'll be on a fast track. Enjoy
