After having taken the exam for the fourth time, I didn't make it. But there's one thing I am happy about - unlike the previous three times, had I cut an 80, I WOULD HAVE made it!
Which is cool, because I did cut an 80 to make PN2. The reason I didn't study for PS1 is because I knew that no matter what I cut on the exam, it wouldn't put me over - and I'm profficient enough in my rate to max PNA points from the exam without studying anyway.
Add to the fact that I just got my first EP since making Second Class, and the fact that I have my bachelor's degree - which will give me four more points - I can, and will, make PS1 off the next cycle. And I can do it with a 70 on the exam - I'll go for the 80 once more.
I made AD2, on shore duty and with an MP eval...scored a 69 on the exam and made it by 15 points. 175 final multiple out of a min. of 160. Felt great to know that I advanced. Hoping to get paid E-5 by next month or two for making first increment. Congrats to you guys.

Doesn't it make more sense to study and go for the max score your able to get instead of playing a numbers game? Never could figure out some peoples thinking on taking tests. If you know your stuff flaunt it.

I believe in Murrays Law, he thought Murphy was an optimist.

If I'm in a situation where cutting an 80 on the exam will still leave me shy of the final multiple, why should I rack my brain? I can cut well above the 75th percentile without studying anyway, which is all I need in order to max out on PNA points.
Instead of studying for a cycle where I'm mathematically eliminted from making it, I can put that energy elsewhere - like off-duty education.
Yggdrasil I think thats the wrong attitude about why you should not take the test. You never know if the quota will change by time the reults come out. I took my 1st CPO test with 6yrs9mo.in. I knew that with my tir/tis I didn't stand a chance but I kept taking it making it on my 5th try in my 9th yr. Back in my time 57/76 there was no pts. given for pna. I pna'd every test. I missed making CPO the last 3 times by .5 to 1.5 pts. You always learn something from previous test. There are always Q's that you can't always find the answer to. TAK AMCS RET.

Straw man fallacy. I AM taking the test, and maxing out on my PNA points. Either this was an intentional straw man argument, or you didn't read my post carefully.
I'm quite sure the man read your post carefully.I remember an AME2 who kept getting high scores on the test for first but wasn't quite making it somewhere to get advanced. After numerous tries the command looked at the results and submitted him for command advancement. I would want to study and make the highest score everytime I could. Then if it seems there may be a glich somewhere at least my record of achievement for advance shows consistent performance. That and my attitude could make a difference as to whether a command would help me or not. He did make First class the next exam.
Ok made AE3 woot. . . but I was wondering how do they decide who gets paid when?. . . I scored higher then 99 percent of everyone who took the test and cut a 73 on the test but I don't get paid till Sept 16th. . . does that sound right for the 1st group or no. . Any info on this would help. . . Thanks
